Hi all, All I want to do is record from my line in jack! I do not have Wave Out Mix or anything like that in my Recording tab in the Sounds properties window, even when I show disabled devices. I have a 3.5mm cable plugged into the line in jack on my laptop from my tape deck line out. The line out works when I plug into my hifi but I cannot seem to get my computer to pick up the line in feed at all! It's really annoying! I have looked all over the place for a soloution to this problem but have not found one as yet. Can anyone help?! Cheers
what program are you using to record with? maybe its possible that you're not getting any audio from the line in jack because until you use a recording program to activate it you won't hear anything. also, you have a line in jack on your laptop? thats kinda strange, most laptops just have a line out and a mic input.
What chipset are you using? I will assume you are not using a sound card. Mine went bad within a month of installation. It wasn't worth sending the mobo back. I had hours setting that up. I bought a garbage app that was going to fix the problem but that was just throwing good money after bad. I just bought a card for $25. It has worked for years. I think it was real tech. We are not the only ones with that problem.
Try this recorder for Windows Vista (not free!) http://www.abyssmedia.com/isound7/ After installation open Settings->Mixer and select Speakers, iSound will record all what u hear.
i too have the same problem and its doing my brain in. my PC is fairly new, bought last year. ive got no problems whatsoever with audio by playing games, watching vids on youtube or by using headphones and talking to friends on messenger. In truth the idea is so simple and i have read quite a few help guides and all basically give the same answer or help, even went as far as saying on google search 'transfer music tape to vista'. i really don't know why it doesn't work. i have a stereo which has a red and white audio slot and a game imput slot for getting better sound out of speakers when or rather if i play console game. the lead is a double ended red and white and it goes into an adaptor which slots into the 'line in' in the back of the sound card. whether of not its the 'line in' or not i don't know cos i dont know what the symbol for line-in looks like. i also tried to follow this guide and got to about number 3 when i got completely stuck. i dont have the green bar show up, yet all my speaker levels are on high. Realtek HD audio manger even state that i have placed the cable in the correct slot, which i find out its a light blue. the other niggly thing is, once i have sussed it all out, would the sound come directly out of my PC speakers for a better sound cos i dont want to have to stick a mirophone in the back of the pc and record sound that way. it would pick up everything i would be doing in my house i'll also point out that although vista has a build it recorder, i use super mp3 recorder professional. i've recorded stream music from the net no worries. please help, its been driving me crazy for the past 3 years. i'll even put photo's up cos i'm quite thick
When I referred to a "chip set" I was referring to hardware not your clicking technique. You both need to get a new computer or a new sound card to fix your sound. You can get USB sound cards for laptops. In the last 4 years all of this this type sound problems where hardware related. You can buy a sound card for a desk top for 20 USDs. The USB sound cards are more expensive. I would buy it at a place where you can easily return it if it does not fix the problem.
well i have sussed it out a bit more to be honest. instead of putting the red and white leads into the audio slots on my hi-fi, i put them in the headphone socket and the other end into the line-in blue slot. i had the sound coming out of my PC speakers as i wanted too and the green bar on Vista record was working. the only bummer was the rather poor connection in my headphone socket. a low buzzing sound which would only stop if i turned the cable and held it in place. i think sticky tape would work. other than that it works. i'll see later if i get a good sound. unless i can buy a double ended audio cable that fits into my line-in and single headphone socket
