okay, someone was helping me out in the other thread i had posted about this. (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/557333/3371230-659952) i got upto step 7 i believe, where it instructs me to run combofix. the link provided turned out to be 404 not found. so i did my looking on the web and found another place to get it. the only thing is, is that i have read that if operated by someone who is inexperienced at running this program, it could cause even greater damage. can someone please help me run this program w/o damaging my wife laptop even more?! thanks!!
teisr Many of the programs used to detect and or fix problems can foobar a machines OS. Even when used properly there is always a small chance that a attempted fix can cause other problems that will have to be addressed afterwards. If one of the experts gave you instructions on what to do and you are not clear on them address that concerm back to the expert who is assisting you,in the thread you have already started and I am sure they will make every attempt to explain exactly what you need to do. Remember, that most of these experts have personal lives and careers that demand thier attention also, and they receive no compensation for the service they provide other than hopefully a thank you.Thats pretty cheap when you consider that in my area computer shops charge $75+ per hr for assistance. Cheers Xeres
