It is getting to the point where I have to unplug this thing every couple of hours to reboot it to get my internet connection back. I installed the latest firmware, the hard lines work, so its just something with the wireless signal. It is located just in the next room, and when i updated the firmware the last time, it worked for wuite some time, but I dont understand what is happening now. My PC still shows a signal, but nothing connects....anyone know what this is about?
You did the first best thing to do which was update the firmware. If that didn't fix the issue which it did fix the issue for me. i would say maybe you should buy a new wireless router. they aren't to expensive.
depending on your router version, i'd go with DD-WRT firmware. i've been using DD-WRT on my v5 and newly acquired v4 WRT54GS routers, and it's far better than stock linksys firmware. only flash if you can handle the instructions, otherwise, you'll have a nice $50 brick.
I actually bought a D-link DIR-615 (was on sale at Best Buy), but havent opened it yet. I will try the DD-WRT, but it only goes up to version 2.0 for the 54GS....my router is a version 6.0 Any advice as to which firmware version to download?
incorrect. DD-WRT goes for all linksys WRT54G/GS/GL routers; i've been using a v5 WRT54GS with DD-WRT micro for a year before getting a v4. v5 and up will require precise prep work before you can flash DD-WRT firmware. they can only use DD-WRT micro on it, due to small flash memory. THIS is the guide i used to flash my v5. you can go to the DD-WRT website and grab the latest micro version, instead of using the older one in the guide.
