i dont know much about linux on the xbox, but i pm'ed somebody this thread and they know a lot they will help you for sure....
Hiya bmx3283 So linux eh? Firstly you need to be modded in some way, softmod or a chip. Then you need to find a good xbox linux distro. There are lots to chose from. Do you want to install it on the HDD or run live from a cd? Then you have to decide if you want to still be able to play xbox games..the choice affects the bios you need. If you just want to run linux then you can flash the onboard bios chip with cromwell and never go back to an xbox. Instead of spending ages looking for distro's here is a link to a page full of all the current xbox linux distros. http://forums.llamma.com/viewtopic.php?t=4185 I use xebian but damnsmalllinux is a great introduction.
hey guys would you be able to use the memory card that comes with the actionreplay to transer the files over to your xbox or do i need to buy a regular memory card? thanks for the help
A word of warning about a softmod with linux.. It takes a large percentage of your E:\ partition for essential backups and dash files. It doesn't leave space for gentoo for a start, and because of the xfat file system the linux install will NOT respect your softmod dash files, and will overwrite them without warning. It's a big worry especially as most people don't know how to recover from a messed up softmod (or don't have the equipment) This is a very real warning.. It's happened to me. That's why all the xbox linux sites say to use a chip and a native install with dual boot bios. They favour the xecuter2 because of the two banks so you can choose xbox or linux with the flick of a switch at boot time. They also suggest a drive of a minimum of 20GB because with a stock drive the biggest partition is only 4GB and has all your xbox saves and custom game soundtracks on it as well..barely enough for an OS, let alone any apps or pictures.
