My friend has an actual lite on 1693s and i have a sony 800a crossflashed to the 1693s firmware.... Compared to my old LG4120B drive they seem to have more features but the +R burn quality does not even compare. Im thinking I should have got another LG... Does anyone here have a dru-800a or 1693s and if so whats your +r writing experiance? Im talking disc scan quality as low as 60% this is terrable.
i have a lite on 1633 & 1693 & have 100's of succesful burns on both, with +R & -R, are you sure your media isn't causing the problems?
i have a Liteon SOHW-1693S, quick question, WHICH KIND of dvd+r media you using? meaning..brand/manufacturer? while i admit the 1693S FAVORS the dvd-r format (as i burn dvd-r format on my liteons, and save my dvd+r burns for my benq) your choice of media COULD be a possible cause for such poor results... Liteons, from my experience, generally prefer the dvd-r format, but that does NOT make them "Bad" dvd+r format burners...you choice of media has a LOT to do with the quality output. docTY~
The only +R media I currently own are Made In Japan Fuji 8x ident as YUDEN000T02 on my LG 4120B up to last week when It died I used to get 96-98% disc quality on every nero scan.... With this new drive (dru800a) using the sony firmware and the lite on firmware im getting real poor burns. My buddy had a actual lite on 1693s not a sony so i went to his house dropped 5 YUDEN000T02s in a row in it. all scanned poor..... And the funny thing is bot drives handle the -Rs fine cant both be defective..... I dont get it I bought this drive cause I was told it was amazing for +r media. Unless i got a bad batch of YUDEN000T02s. I doubt it though..... Befor emy 4120B died I had never had a single bad YUDEN000T02 burn.
can you maybe do a scan of a +r that youve burned with the 1693s? I wanna compare. What firmware are you using? And what are your drive settings like?
hmmm...interesting...as i mentioned earlier, the Liteons are fantastic in the dvd-r format, but you should not be getting such poor results for the dvd+r format, especially since you are using TYs i doubt that your TYs are "defective" or you got a "bad batch", out of curiousity, which firmware are you using on your Sony dru-800a? since your buddy has the OEM Liteon 1693S, which firmware is HE using? you can possibly eliminate the media as being a factor by comparing the 2 firmwares you are using... i gave you my suggestion HERE in your other thread awhile ago: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/344099 something else you might consider is to give your drive a few more burns before you "toss it" or "change ur media," sometimes drives need a bit of "burn in time" before they start functioning optimally...also, another tid bit is IF you are going to try different media, Liteons actually PREFER the "mit- made in taiwan" media (ie. Verbatims, Ritek, & Ricohjpn) those are the only 3 i would PERSONALLY recommend trying if you are going to try diff. media that is MIT with MCC produced Verbatims being the top choice (MCC003/MCC004 8x dvd+r/16x dvd+r respectively) good luck docTY~ edit: to answer your question, i'm using the KSOB firmware as linked to you from your other thread, like i said, i burn my dvd-r TYG01/TYG02/TYG03s with my Liteons, it would be nearly impossible for me to find a dvd+r backup burned on that Liteon since it's been over a year since i've burned a dvd+r with my Liteon
Thanks for your help. Currently my buddie and I are using your firmware... Also not to be a smart ass cause i apreciate your input but you said the lite on preferes MIT media but your using MIJ media yourself. ill try burning a few more discs before I toss it I guess considering I just bought it. But at this rate if I kill a complete spinle of discs it wont be woth it much longer. My old LG 4120B use to burn -r and +r MIT or MIJ with real real good results. oh how i miss my drive.
I have a pack of ritek r03-02 that I havnt tried yet just cause I thought this was a worse media. gonna try it i guess. I had bought them cause I got 100 discs for $30 they are branded memorex but are ritek. I just assumed if my drive is doing this bad with the TYs the riteks would be worse. Ill keep you updated.
New problem discovered just tried to burn at 4x to dvd in alcohal and it says unsupported write speed and goes to 3.2x then fails...
the reason i say that i use MIJ media in the dvd-r format is because at this time, that is ALL I HAVE...i'm a dvd+r booktyped to dvd-rom guy myself, so, when it comes to dvd-r format, i have to take into consideration that i will only use media that i believe is WORTH THE MONEY the fact that Taiyo Yudens are MY preference of media, it supersedes what i will or will not use in my burners despite the Liteons favoring the MIT discs~ i hope that is not too confusing, i don't particularly like the Verbatim MCCs in the dvd-r format, that's just ME, hence my decision to use TYs across the board for both formats, irregardless of burner used. as to your new problem, i am not familiar with Alcohol burning program unfortunately, so i can't give you any suggestions in that regards...do you have other burning applications to use for your burns? if you use nero (6 or 7) an included nero log could prove to be extremely helpful in possibly finding a problem with your setup. docTY~
I use nero 6 normaly. just did a few burns on my MIT discs.... even worse... I too and a booktped to ram +r person and my favortie discs are YUDEN000T02 I think Im going to just go get another drive. I dont want to use -r and it seems that this drive is terrable with +r Ive tried everything. Sony ky06 firmware, lite on KS0B firmware I recsted the learning eprom wasted lots of discs. I think to be safe ill buy an lg again. supports all formats and from my first burn to my last burn my old burner surved me well. I bought a different brand cause of all the good things ppl use to say to me about lite-ons. couldnt find the liteon found this sony and its frustrating me. never had this much trouble with pc stuff.
