I've had this recorder since Jan 2005 and it works nicely. It is the original LWW5005 too. However, I ran out of the older DVD blanks that worked well with it. It doesn't take the newer DVD's I use on my PC's, like Maxell and Fuji. Is it just too old? Will the latest FW update take care of the drive inconsistencies? Lite-On used to have a drive and system FW, but I don't see that. Maybe I didn't look in the right place (Lite-On site) Or do I find a $50 DVD burner to put in the unit? If so, which one?
be careful if you upgrade the firmware macrovision hacks can stop working see this for more information http://digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buyerguides/dvdrecorders/liteontips.htm
