I’m new here, I’ve searched the forum but couldn’t find anything relevant!

I’ve had my 5045 for a few months now, initially it worked well and I had built up about 25 hours of video content onto the HDD.

A few weeks ago I tried to defrag the HDD, however it crashed around 34% done, each time after it did the same, once its crashed I have to unplug the unit in order to gain control again.

I noticed that one of the thumbnails wasn’t displaying (just grey box), thinking this might be causing my problem, I decided to delete this recording.

After deleting, I noticed another thumbnail was now a grey box, so again I deleted.
I have now realised, the grey boxed thumbnails keep showing up as I delete them, also if I try to play these recordings, they jump, often as much as 25 mins into the program.

Defrag also NO longer works, it still crashes about 35% (lock up)

Any thoughts?? Could I have bad sectors on my HDD, it’s certainly never been moved.

    Regards,

Have you updated your firmware? I know that they've addressed HD problems in the past revisions .. and they revised the firmware as of 9-16

I had updated twice in the past however I did so again about an hour ago.
The defrag now runs to 100 percent to my amazement, although this did nothing for my recordings, still they were greyed out and not accessible.

I decided to delete all recordings, in the listing description of each recording (if you follow that) it gave 116mb for a 2hour SP recording! Yes not possible, would have thought about 5GB.

This obviously had a lot to do with the problems I’ve been having, as many of the recordings were being miss-reported size wise.
If this were a PC I’d be describing it as a FAT problem, and run Scandisk.

The last thing I did was make a short recording, then go to delete it.
The graphic at the top of the screen says how much space is left on the HDD, mine is now being reported as 155GB, is this correct or am I still having problems???

Since neither of my LiteOn recorders are the HD model, I can't really say. I do know that updating my firmware really improved the older one of my two 5005 models. You might want to go to one of these LiteOn forums with your problem ...

I don't have the 5045 but have a ilo RHD04 made by LiteOn. They are much the same. Some time ago I did a defrag and lost all the thumbnail's than they re-appeared but were gray and empty. The more I tried to get everthing back the worse it got, much as you discribe. I ended up loosing everything and did a restore that acording to ilo also reformat's the drive. There are some fourms and threads that mention this problem. In basic I think the general comment is, Dont Defrag The drive. I don.t and have had no further problems.
    Good Luck

    With all due respect.
It would seem that this happens using defrag with all ver. of firmware. It will react on my ilo wirh oldest to newest firmware
