First of all is there a way to flash a lite-on drive without buying anything, sodering or anything. If not then lets say i wanted to get a new drive, could i get like a samsung drive and put it in my xbox that i originally had a lite on drive? Will that cause problems? I want to make it so my xbox can play burned games but i got a lite-on drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
No. You would still need to cut traces and either solder a swith and resistor, or purchase the Vampire or Probe 2 to dump the full firmware. At that point you could spoof the DVDkey to the Samsung but would be pointless because there is firmware for LiteOn.
well i had a samsung m825 or something like that and all i needed was a sata cable and i was able to flash it, are you saying that the lite-on firmware is not in the drive but in the xbox?
LiteOns aren't as easy as Samsungs. For LiteOns you'll need to cut traces on the drive and then either probe it with a Vampire or Probe2. You can also solder a switch and resistor to the drive to get the firmware. Here is a tutorial using the vampire.
What do you mean "its more difficult to obtain with lite-on's" i just want to get a samsung drive off the internet (one that i know i can flash) and put that in my xbox so i can flash it the easier way. Will that work?
You have to obtain the firmware of the LiteOn drive to get the DVDkey. Without the DVDkey, you can't play games. Yes, you could use a Samsung drive, but once you get the firmware of the LiteOn drive it is just as easy as Samsung to flash. The only hard part about the LiteOn is obtaining the firmware. See my response (post #5) for a tutorial on how to get the LiteOn firmware.
i seen the link "http://www.elitemodscene.com/wiki/index.php/Tutorial_for_dumping_Lite-ON_firmware" but i want to make it easy without buying some third party stuff, can i do that? or is there an easy way of doing it like the samsung one?
No, there is no easy way. Cut traces then solder a switch and resistor to the drive or use the Vampire/Probe 2. ^ That would be how if you didn't use the Vampire/Probe 2.
Lol... I don't know how to explain this any easier for you man. You can't just buy a Samsung drive and pop it into your console and away you go. Your LiteOn drive contains a DVDkey which is married to your XBOX 360 console. You have to dump the firmware of the LiteOn drive first to obtain your unique DVDkey. Without the DVDkey, all your Samsung drive would do in your XBOX 360 is play DVDs. Bottom line is you have to obtain your XBOX 360s unique DVDkey from the LiteOn firmware. Honestly, once you get the firmware dumped from the LiteOn, flashing a LiteOn is just as easy as Samsung. The only hard part is getting your firmware/DVDkey from the LiteOn drive.
Doubtful. This method actually isn't that complicated so I doubt anybody will go to great lengths to make it completely all software mod.
Maximus Xtractor + Vampire 2.0 --OR-- CK3 + Probe 2 If you don't want to solder the traces back together you can pick up a trace repair pen to fix the traces.
Hi. Same question here! I have the Liteon drive (version DG-16D2S with firmware 74850C). Looking at buying this probe http://mrmodchips.co.uk/catalog/pro...d=802&osCsid=e24893fb68b9a7480621cc456685411a and this tutorial http://www.ixtreme.net/xbox-360-tutorials/jungleflasher-tutorial-for-ixtreme-t5.html reads to me that the only difference from flashing this drive to any other is that you need the drive open, you need the probe to touch the single position on the pcb and you can still use the xbox itself to power up the drive?? I only decided I wanted to flash my box yesterday and done a little reading. I also find the tutorial a little hard to follow so maybe I'm reading something wrong? Is it possible with just this probe and nothing else for my LiteOn Drive (if it is it doesn't sound all that difficult at all)? Thanks for any help! ----------------------------- Edit - Or even this? http://mrmodchips.co.uk/catalog/pro...d=785&osCsid=e24893fb68b9a7480621cc456685411a is that the only thing I would need to install??! and if so would it be a bitch like soldering the d0 on the original box?!
Check out the tutorial in my signature called "All LiteOns". Basically the preferred method for all LiteOns is cutting traces, then either using the Vampire/Probe 2 or soldering a switch and resistor to the board.
Ok I find this a bit confusing. 1) In the guide on your sig it says at the end the traces should be repaired, is this a nessicary step and if not, why do it if its not needed? 2) When you say 'Probe 2' we are talking about the 'Executer CK3 Probe v2' yes? 3) Earlier in the thread its mentioned a CK3 (I presume connectivity kit) is also required (it also says in your linked guide that the CK3 + Probe2 is required). Do I really need this? I ask because if thats the case, its just as cheap to buy the Blaster CK3 which comes with a Probe bundled.. What exactly is this thing for / doing? 4) I plan on going out to the shop and buying a new xbox (I presume these will all be the new style xbox 360s now with the redesigned bodies) so I can continue to use xbox live.. Now, my elite with the liteon inside it is still going strong.. Can I flash the new style xboxs easier than doing my liteon equipped elite and forgo all this lot and just flash the new one the easy way!!!? Sorry for all the questions but I would like a clear picture of whats needed as the website I keep linking to where I will get the bits has like 4 items all of which claim to get the drive key from my model liteon and none of them say you need anything other than that single item! Thanks and sorry for being a pain!
can you do it without soldering? can you just connect wires on the board or something? And do you know of some kind of free software that can backup xbox 360 games?
