I bought this drive new. I installed in my desktop. MS loaded driver. I run Clone dvd with Any DVD in the background. I find a disk to test the drive. I used Ice Age. Clone DVD does not see the new drive. I browse and select drive. CloneDVD gives me a message that the DVD is protected by CSS blah, blah, blah. I try all kind of stuff, all the usual. I hooked up my Sony usb external to the desktop, everything works like it should. I look for firmware/drivers can't find one. I ck AnyDVD, it has the drive listed but it does not seem to be decoding any DVD that is in the drive. I bring the Lite On back and get another one, same problems. So I say maybe there is some type of conflict that I can't see, I format and reload MS XP Pro. I had been needing to do this anyway, so this gave me an excuse. Well I am still having the problem with the Lite On. I do have the newest AnyDVD/CloneDVD from Slysoft. All Ya'lls help will be appreciated, I need it bad!
I already have the firmware update. Both drives had an error when doing the update. It said that the update could not be done, contact vendor. I do not read german so I was unable to find anything on the bit setting. Your guidance would be appreciated. Thanks
Go to Ask jeeves or google and type in Lite on Bitsetting utility. It'll come up Lite on USA Top version BE V1.3.5 PS08 down load zip file and has the change to dvd-rom or normal,maybe something else can't remember but will keep it there till you change it again. Chris
there is a PS09 firmware update for ye burner,Liteon SHW-160P6S http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=17 also are you using anydvd version 5.9.5.3? if using a key not from slysoft it will not work with this version..ye will have to buy the key from slysoft... uninstall using the programs uninstaller and reboot and reinstall anydvd. main firmware page http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php cheers edit,spelling......
I have the firmware upgrade, I have tried to upgrade on two different drives and got a message that the drive did not update to PS09 contact vendor, it did this on both drives. I also purchased AnyDVD/CloneDVD/CloneCD from Slysoft and have legal copies of the software with keys and the SW is up to date. This is about the only SW I have legal keys for. I don't mind paying for quality programming at a fair price, unlike MS XP PRO which was so poorly written and has more updates and rewrites than I have toes, fingers, arms, legs, hair. If I were on a modem and I started today I would still be DL updates next month. But it's all we have so I suffer thru it. MS is probably why I am having difficulty with this drive. I guess you got more than you wanted. Now that's a good deal or is it Methadone in the morning?
My problem with Lite On and BenQ is solved. Even though I had two CD burners installed and removed one and put the DVD burner on the IDE cable as Master, and set the jumper to master, and insured that the CD burner was slave I still had that very stressful problem with the DVD burners. After many hours of troubleshooting I failed to do what you should probably do first. Check the cable. I disconnected the CD burner and the DVD burner has been burning away. I still have not swapped out the cable to insure that is the problem, and not a conflict with the CD Burner. There is a possibility that the problem could be the CD as it is ancient, but I will worry about that later because I want to get my bike back together. Thanks for your help.
