I have 2 DVD/CD burners, The one I had before I forgot what it was ( I still have it just a tad lazy when it comes to looking at the model ) So.. It stopped working.. like.. not completely.. I can't burn DVDs with it.. I bought it about 6 months ago from newegg, and have only used it about 6 times to copy my PS2 backups.. and after not using it for many months it just stopped working.. I can play CDs and DVDs on it..as well as burn Cds but not DVD .. when I try to burn a DVD it makes a high clicking noise (three clicks) and pauses..then repeats.. Nero does not give me an error and it says at 1% for 10 minutes before I crash nero and to make the clicking stop I have to eject the dvd..

Now! I bought another burner .. IT also burns CDs .. but when I try to burn a DVD it will make a low humming noise for a moment and then Nero gives me an error like Media changed or "NOT READY TO READY CHANGE, MEDIUM MAY HAVE CHANGED (062800)" .. I have never burnt DVDs with this rom as I bought it from newegg a week ago.. Any suggestions?

I'm on Windows XP SP2 if it matters.

Could just need a firmware update to recognise your new disks.

I need some model numbers please (both your drives - could fix the old one too)...

If you look in the title it has one of them.
    Lite-ON LH-18A1P
    and AOpen DUW1616L

The problem is NOT that they are not recognized! The problem is that neither of them would burn DVDs.. I found out if I unplug the ribbon from one of them and just hook up one of the recorders then one will work.

    I'll try re-explaining the situation.

I have 2 DVD/CD Burners. the AOpen DUW1616L I have only had for six months. Prior to the problems I've been having I have maybe used this thing 6 times at the most and then did not use it again for 6 months. A few days ago I tried to use it to burn a DVD using Nero. When I did this Nero kept running yet the DVD burner started clicking.. It would click three times..Pause and Click some more.. Nero would keep counting down the time and stay at 1%.. when it got to 0:00 it still sat there for about 10minutes until I had to crash Nero because it wouldnt stop when I tried to make it stop. Once Nero was crashed the clicking did not stop on the burner so I had to eject it for it to stop.

Now, since having this problem I immediately went and bought another DVD/CD burner, the Lite-ON LH-18A1P, I unplugged the old burner and hooked this one up. This one would not burn DVDs either. Except this time the burner would make a very deep/low humming noise and then give me an error saying "Error! NOT READY TO READY CHANGE, MEDIUM MAY HAVE CHANGED (062800)". So, I unhooked my other CD-Rom (because I had my CD-Rom hooked up as well as this burner) and hooked the burner up by itself. Now it works, but it had burned the DVDs wrong a few times now.. Like if I tell Nero to validate the DVD it will tell me that certain sectors did not match.

I believe this was detailed enough this time.. if You need any more info.. I'm open for it :)

I realise that the problem isn't they cant brun dvds, hence why I asked for model numbers...

I know what I am talking about ;-)

    Anyway, update this...
    [bold]AOpen DUW1616L [/bold]
    ftp://ftp.aopen.com.tw/pub/firmware/dvd+rw/duw1616arr/DUW1616ARR_103.exe

Run that, with nothing in the drive and nothing else running on PC. It is a firmware update to make the drive recognise newer disks.

There isn't an update out for the LiteOn yet, but anyway.

Also, you can have both dvd burners hoocked up, as long as one is set to master and the other to slave.

    See this guide.
    http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/Jumper Settings for your Drive.pdf

    Get back to me...

BTW what media (brand) are you using?

I knew the master/slave thing :p They're both set for that, I checked twice ..that would have been an embarrassing mistake :D .. Thanks for the help .. I will try this..

Btw -- didn't see that last part.. I'm using Verbatim DVD-R
