I have a Lite-On DVD burner (LH-20A1H) which has been giving me problems when backing up DVDs lately (the backups don't play properly). This drive is only a few months old. On another computer I have an NEC DVD burner (ND-3550A) and this drive is 2+ years old and it backs up the DVDs just fine without any problems. Is Lite-On considered a company that has quality burners? What company is known for the best DVD burners? Thanks.
At the moment the best burners seem to be coming from pioneer. LG I have always had problems with.. Lite-On I wouldn't buy. not ever.. I think they are rubbish (they are cheap for a reason) Other people swear by them, but I found them to be unreliable and not good burners. A lot of shoddy unbranded OEM fitted burners seem to be LG/Hitachi/Toshiba.(or so the firmware says) I know what you mean about the NEC 3550.. I have one and after 3 years and thousands of disks it burns as well as the day it was installed Never upgraded the firmware.. never had to.
yes Pioneer are the best drives on the market Samsung are good also NEC make good drives yes Lite-On are ok I'm not impressed with the sata drive i have it doesn't transcode alot of the newer DVDs
I'm a bit of a fan of Samsung drives, I must be honest. They have one major flaw though. The belt they use to push the tray in and out seems poor. After about 12 months it starts to slip and the drive refuses to open. It's a stock fault that I have had on every Samsung drive I have ever owned. It's what we in the tv trade years ago used to call a "stock fault".. which means that.. just by hearing the name and the age you KNOW what the problem will be. It's easy enough to fix, if you can be bothered. The belt from a scrap generic cd-rom drive will usually fit and last for years. Or.. because I'm really really cheap (and lazy I would have you know) I leave one of those blanks from a spool of disks in the drive before I close it. Problem solved.
.....the most you should pay for a burner now a days is 35$ and thats with DL and lighscribe support big lite-on fan -tripplite
I actually have that same exact drive, payed $50.00 for it a year ago. Works incredible, and never had a problem with it- well it wouldn't open one time, but thats cause a disk broke inside, but its all good . Anyways, from my experience there nice burners. My dad has an Hp burner, and its just utter garbage. It's probably just a faulty drive? Call the manufacture, see if they can ship a replacement out to you. Did you get a warranty on it?
whenever my drives in windows give me issues i reinstall the drivers...some times software on the computer interferes with them...windows is a bit of mess at times (largest understand statement of the century) 305ss2-u tried reinstalling your drivers? -tripplite
I have the same drive and love it, produces the mst consistant playback in all standalone DVD players.
