I don't know why you'd want to avoid NewEgg . . I've purchased over a dozen DVD burners from them as well as motherboards, RAM and lots of assorted PC parts . . always great prices and service As far as the LVW 5005 recorder goes . .I have three and I've used them lots and lots . . I've replaced the drives in all three of them after close to a thousand hours of use in each . . I've used other DVD recorders and they all fail with extensive use . . the big difference is that you can purchase a LiteOn DVD recorder for a computer and install it into your LVW5005 . . the other recorders (like Panny and Magnavox) are junk once you wear the drive out @Dunker Do you have a LVW5005?? Have you ever purchased anything from NewEgg?? You are saying to avoid both . . the Video Help link . well if you look closely at all of the reviews, you'd never purchase any DVD recorder
Newegg does have good RMA service, true enough. They need it. I prefer dealing with companies who send me stuff that isn't broken so I don't have to make use of their return service in the first place. Newegg's proof of the old adage, "You get what you pay for." They are the only major vendor I won't do business with because every order I've made with them has had stuff that arrived broken, was misrepresented, didn't last, etc. Most things at Mwave.com are $1-2 more and no problems. Tigerdirect is good too though they are a little pricey on shipping. Meritline and SMS are all top-notch and have great prices. Chiefvalue seems okay but since I discovered they are now run by the same people as Newegg I won't do business with them. Zipzoomfly and Fry's are also okay and have good prices sometimes though you sometimes have to wait for sales. As far as recorders, when I see people having lots of problems with a particular machine, I steer clear of it. It's something called common sense that's in short supply on the net. I've also learned the hard way that you need to pay attention to some of the negative feedback - knowing what I know now, I would not have bought my Panny DMR-E50 recorder (which I mainly bought because of the built-in TBC and good picture quality) and instead have gotten the Pioneer 220, which I'm still looking to buy the last of, which is widely considered to be one of the best HDD-less recorder made.
I wouldn't buy anything from TigerDirect or Fry's . . Poor, poor service and they sell junk As far as NewEgg selling junk . . I have NEVER had to return anything to them so I don't know if their RMA policy is any good or not . . I buy LOTS (over $5K per year) of stuff on-line from NewEgg, SMS and Meritline . . You have to watch MeritLine as at times they will substitute without informing you first . . then try to make you pay to return the item Over the last 5 years, I have purchased over $12K worth of merchandise from NewEgg AND HAVE NEVER HAD ONE IOTA OF TROUBLE . . never received items that were broken or misrepresented Victor
My experience - and this seems to be the experience of a lot of corporate users - is the exact opposite of yours. Newegg sells nothing but garbage. Tigerdirect is a favorite of corporate users even though they charge more because they get it right. I lay down a few grand a year with them alone. Mwave provides the sweet spot between price and quality of service though they weren't always so good. I've never had to use their RMA so I don't know about that. I do agree on Meritline. Some folks like Meritline though because they substitute TYG03 for TYG02 at the same price (like I care...) and similar stuff, but I deal with SMS for most of my media, cases, etc. needs anyway.
ive never had a problem with newegg.com either and here bad feedback about tiger direct all the time i'm in the market for a standalone dvd recorder/player also. and the Lite-On looks like a good deal
aabbccdd . . It seems that the biggest problem with the set top type DVD recorders is that the drives are flaky . . this goes for others as well as the LiteOn . . I purchased two of the units years ago . . and a friend gave me one also . . I've installed SHW160P6S05 drives into two of them and a SOHW1693s into the other . . they work extremely well and maybe even better than when they were new . . funny thing is that the older two had Sony made drives in them and the newest one had a LiteOn drive with a Sony circuit board . . I believe that after the main electronics are burned in that the units can be kept alive virtually forever as long as you keep stuffing drives in them every few years
Hi, I have Lite-on Stand alone,DVD combo recorder.LVC 9006- finicky about media- had to contact Liteon for list- use Sony's in it. Problem- won't record prerecorded VHS discs to DVD- it stops- I guess the copyright stuff. any way around this? Barbara
