Hi Everyone. I was wondering if any of you would be able ot help me out. Also excuse me for the long post, there are several problems. I have a liteon 1633s and lately i've been having several problems with either it, or possibly the media i am using. theres also a chance that theres something wrong with the computer. I have no way of telling which it is. There are a couple of dvds that I am having trouble burning. These dvds are burned discs, dvd-rs i think, and are not scratched up at all. They play fine in my dvd player and at the beginning I did not have a problem burning them. I usually use nero recode for burning , but once i started having some problems i tried clonedvd again and had the same problems. Nero said Compiling dvd volume failed, and failed to read the file %s. Clonedvd says failed to copy the dvd video, please clean the source disc or close some other program. When I had this problem i then started to just rip these dvds to the hard drive with smartripper (i now have dvd decrypter). And that seemed to work ok, without any errors. Nero Recode would then work to burn the files on the hard drive, however clonedvd still said the same error. These dvds seemed to burn fine, but its very possible they would have problems on other dvd players. At some point i uninstalled nero 6 and installed the trial for 7, which it is possible i did not have the problems with those errors before doing that. I burned a dvd for someone about a week ago and he said it wasnt playing on his dvd player right. The media was imation 8x dvd-rs burned at 8x. Once I started having problems updated my firmware, first to BSOY then crossflashed to 1635s CSOT, but i stil had the same problems mentioned in the paragraph above. I also tried to update my aspi (im not even sure i had an aspi before doing that). Still the same problem. Last night i started trying to check some discs using nero cd-dvd speed. Most of the disc qualities at 8x were around 92-95. Last night i even checked a dvd from a store and that seemed to have quite a few errors as well. Though today it seemed to be a little better(possibly becuase of the updated firmware?). There is a dvd i burned about a week ago and just checked it today, the dvd was possibly the worse dvd i have ever seen. It basically skipped through the entire film in 15 seconds. Then i checked it with cd-dvd speed and the disc quality was actually better than any of the other dvds i have checked. So i guess i cant really trust that tool at the moment. My dvd player plays almost everything fine, thats why its hard for me to tell if it will have problems on others, which i think some would. From now on ill play it safe and burn at 4x but i don't think that will help much. It of course wont help the problems im having reading and ripping to hard drive with nero and clonedvd. I also had to try the dvd writer on tmpgenc dvd author. That seemed to go through the process fine but who knows if they burned ok. Has anyone had similar problems with this burner or media, or even any others? I would love to get this all back to the way it was before. If you got through reading this long post, thanks for taking the time.
these are usually good burners, usually it is because of the media used. try some taiyo yuden, verbatim or sony (made in japan discs). i personally think it is the media used as imation is ok but not the best. try some different discs & see if this helps. also make sure your laser is clean
NO NO NO..hehe, that's a definite NO NO right there~ imation media is sub-par at best, since USUALLY you will get the dreaded CMC MAGs when buying them...namely the CMC MAG. AE1 coded ones or the just as poor, FUJIFILM03s and/or the ProdiscS04..both made in taiwan~ i have this same drive as you EDM317, while i have NOT crossflashed it with the 1635s firmware, i still use the official Liteon 1633S one BSOY... as gjl suggested, use some better media, many many issues with playback can be resolved by using better media...also on poor quality media, such as the imation 8x dvd-r that you have now, SLOW DOWN THE BURN...4x max and definitely not to the outer edge of the disc... i have a gut feeling this is a MEDIA issue, nothing else...good luck docTY~
Thanks for the replies! I have been burning at 4x for the past week or so, so hopefully that will help. A few days ago I got some maxell dvd-rsm which you both most liekly already know are manufacutred by Ritek. I heard that these burned decently with liteon burners. Do you think these dvd-rs are any better than the imation? Unfortunatly i had to choose from whatever media they had at walmart, so i got these. Where do you purchase your media? I'm not sure if they had sony, but they had no TY and the vertabim's were only dvd+rs. I'm hoping these ritek dvd-rs will work a little better. Thanks again for the replies.
have never used ritek but some people on here like them, so in my opinion they are better than imation. walmart do sell sony discs, i get my discs from best buy they usually always have an offer of 50 for $15 either verbatims or sony, i just wait for the offers. sams club is usually good prices also if you have one near you.
if you got the Maxell MIT (8x dvd-r) they will be the RitekG05s, i am one of those people who have had a LOT of success with the RitekG05s (mine were the Ridata RitekG05s, non-printable, matte surface from about 2+ years ago) 500+ successful burns using a Liteon drive at the time, still hold up well high 80s- low 90s quality scores using nero cd-dvd speed the Riteks in MY opinion are MUCH MUCH better media than the imations (CMC MAG/FUJIFILM/PRODISC) coded ones...you've def. moved UP the media ladder there ~ good luck, see how those Ritek's fare for you, you SHOULD be getting better results, if not, then the ONLY other dvd media i could suggest to give you EXCELLENT results would be Taiyo Yuden in the dvd-r format, i don't really like the Verbatim's in the dvd-r format personallly, so if at all possible during the sales locally, find the MIJ Fuji 8x dvd-r spindles, those are TYG02s (TY made) and there have been SOME reports recently that the Sony 8x dvd-r MIJ spindles are also TYG02s (but this is not on ALL of them, some people are still getting the Sony coded media in the MIJ spindles of Sony 8x dvd-r, this is not a 100% sure bet locally), the Fuji "made in japan" spindles 8x dvd-r ARE 100% Taiyo Yuden made thus far, i have quite a few spindles myself from last year and earlier THIS year too docTY~
Yeah they're G05s. I have a couple of other questions. What is safest way to burn dvds with nero? Since there are several ways to do this, I am not sure which would be best to do, copy dvd in nero express, or nero recode. I used to use nero recode all the time, but those dvds would not play on one of my dvd players, so im thinking that may happen with other peoples as well. Also, like I had said before, those couple of dvds were giving me problems that it couldnt even read the dvds before. But I had to do a system recovery a few days ago so they may work now. The same problem happened with the same dvds with clone dvd. The last few times I have used nero express and when it was verifying the data, all sorts of sector errors came up the last time. When I used cd-dvd speed, the disc quality was 93 at 4x, and when i did a disc scan for PI/PO errors, it looked really bad. But chances are it will play fine in my dvd player. Thats what confuses me. Is cd-dvd speed to be trusted? Is clonedvd any better to burn with? Or how about ripping the files to the hard drive first with dvd decryptor, then burning with nero or clonedvd? I'm just wondering what would be the best way in your opinions to burn dvds? Thanks again!
