I just purchased a Liteon 5045 and am very pleased with it's performance (except for some compatability issues with aonther of my DVD players). I am trying to back up some of my old VHS movies onto DVD. I have read where there are some firmware updates to the Liteon that can allow me to record my VHS Macrovision tapes to a DVD. I am concerned about this procedure as I have never done a firmware update to any DVD player I own. Is there a website that explains the procedure in detail on accomlishing this on the Liteon 5045? I have been considering getting a Macrovision filter to use during the copying procedure. Anyone know of a good model to purchase that works? Thanks
Dennishp, Go to my ILO Firmware Download Page. Select "Things To Know Before Updating" for a good how-to. It is for the ILO recorders, which are made by LiteOn (the HD04 is almost identical to the 5045), so it will apply fairly close to the 5045. Then, from the main page, go to "Other Helpful Information and Links" and you will find a link to hacked firmware for the 5045 that has the Macrovision sensing disabled. The latest versions are there for all regions.
Dennishp Liteon have a website @ www.liteonit.com.tw from here you can download system and drive firmware updates which are model specific. Hope that helps you, there is a "guide" posted there. Correction: That web address is www.litonit.com/DC/English/download.htm
Wound up buying a ILO HD04 in addition to the Liteon 5045. Got the firmware download from Guitarman's website and am now able to back up my old VHS tapes. Thanks for help Guitarman.
