As the titles says, I have a 320gb HDD from my old/recently departed Xbox that I have no way of transferring the files from. I plan on buying a new Xbox, but can I use Xboxhdm to lock the HDD for the new Xbox without having to erase everything on it?
Sorry about that, I edited the message before I posted it and somehow erased about half of it. It was softmodded. Unlocking the HDD isn't the problem, since I still have the Xboxhdm CD I used when I first upgraded the HDD. I'm just wondering if I make a new Xboxhdm CD with the eeprom from the new Xbox can I use it to lock the old HDD and have it work in the new Xbox without having to reformat it?
I personally have never tried this, but my educated guess would be yes, since you have the correct files to unlock and then re-lock the hdd. If not, you can always copy your files back over to a PC or other drive, and then start fresh and copy back over. (Yeah, I know, it's a pain, but sometimes even necessary with Windows.)
It worked! I locked my old 320gb HDD with the eeprom from my new Xbox and it booted up with no problems so far.
sorry i didn't see this earlier. You shouldn't have any problems after you get it working. In my experience the only softmod failures are on the 1.6b xbox's. Which they would require the msdash to be replaced and then need to be modded with sid. Same thing goes for my cheater drive files, works on all xbox versions besides 1.6b. Enjoy your reincarnated xbox!
Hi, please let me know if I'm posting this correctly, or else please tell me where to post it, (excuse my ignorance) It seems like if I have a "similar situation (HDD)..., the x-box makes a clicking noise when turned on (sounds like the HDD) and then a screen pops up stating the console needs servicing, how can I install a new HDD in the Xbox?, Its not moded or anything... thanks.
follow these directions and choose a new hard drive. Your old hard drive is shot. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/357863
