Having a huge problem. I can't log into windows at all not even into safe mode, i get to the user login screen when i click the user it loads setting and then saves settings and i'm back to the user login screen. At first this was just happening under normal booting so i had to use safe mode (worked fine)but now safe mode is doing the same thing. I use adaware, so i read about the userinit.exe and wsaupdate.exe copy, i did that under recovery console but the file didn't exist...d: is my ntfs drive, c is fat 32 and e fat 16 (maybe i have the number screwed around), i did the copy on the d: drive. I can't find anything else online, what can i do...i have back up files under my shared documents since i made a new user account (when safe mode worked) since i thought that a user acount was messed up, and if i repair install i will lose my backup files. do i just move my hd to diff. computer and slave it or is there another way Any thoughts?
If you have another XP comp (has to be able to read NTFS), slave the drive and save what you can. Then wipe the drive, repartition and reinstall. I know its a huge pain, but once it does something like this, it will never be completely fixed until it is reformatted/reinstalled. You may want to consider using one of your partitions strictly for your data, so if you ever need to resinstall XP, you wont have to worry about slavng the drive to another comp. Good luck ~Rich
I was worried that's what i had to do, but i don't see any other choice...a big pain in the ass. thanks for the help
