The 2300 comes with a mini-audio RCA adaptor. On the PS3, connect the Composit adaptor to the PS3(The cable that came with the PS3) then connect the Red and White to the Logitech mini-input adaptor. PS3 settings, > Audio > Composit

From what i can tell, the 2300 only has RCA input. So it would not matter if you started with Optical (Bitstream/Linear PCM) or whatever, it would get reduced to stereo. That is not a bad thing because the 2300 can only do stereo being that it only has 2 channels and 1 sub. You can still get Dolby Digital and such, just in 2.1 stereo.

To ansewer you question, Optical has much higher potential than composit stereo but you would not hear the difference unless you had a High $ system running 5.1 to 7.1 surround sound.
