Hi Gang,im here in ireland looking for a decent cable box? Any ideas people, eurovox are ok im told? Chippy777
hi there...eurovox are fine..good pic quality especially the ex1000...the starview 4 usb is also good and reliable, but if you want something that will last the rest of 2009 and beyond,go for the dbox..all the rest are going down ...permanently within 2 months!
for what its worth, these forums have been regularly visited by people with "inside information" tellong us that the boxes arent going to work for very much longer, hasn't happened yet. my box of choice is the replay lite, it is neat, small, easy to update, has all that many of the more expensive boxes have, programme guides, parental lock, settings to allow you to set up your favourite channels, plus it has a thread on this site full of knowledgable people who dont mind answering new members questions no matter how trivial. i am also in Ireland(Dublin) so this one works well here.
Nobody knows exactly when nagra3 will be rolled out, and nobody knows at this stage which boxes will work after, it's all conjecture. So to say the dbox will definitely work is not true, people think that the linux based boxes are more likely to work, but nobody knows for sure. And the latest time estimate for n*l dublin is around june, but again, that is speculation.
I am on the verge of buying the EX5100. Is it safe to say that I shouldn't buy it not considering the boxes will not be working two months down the line.
That is not necessarily true, the same person has been posting that again and again, they said december a few months ago, now it's march. The date i have heard from a more reliable source is june, but that is not definite either. Also nobody knows what boxes will work, if any, after nagra 3 is rolled out. So it's really entirely up to you.
Thanks Evastar for clearing it up. Just like to ask what is Nagra 3 and is there anyway to counter it.
Best advice would be to "not go there!" http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/743227 Check this thread for an idea of the information that is available.
