well, i just gave up on stupid KAZAA, cos it just sucks. Every song i try abd get it's either the wrong song, or it cuts out half way trhough, or it's totally blank, or it's the first 10 seconds lopped over and over. I cna't stand this program anymore. so i'm looking for a GOOD replacement. I tried WinMX, and had the same problems as Kazaa. I tried eDonkey/eMule/Overnet, and they are way too slow. I also just tried this "BitTirrent thing, and the site www.suprnova.org, cos my mate showed it to me the other day. But it was REALLY REALLY slow.....i think maybe those ones are designed more for people with broadband, not dial up. anyways, with kazaa i usually got speeads of about 4-8Kbps, but with eMule, and BitTorrent I was getting speed of less than 1Kbps, which would take over a hour to get each song....... so any help here would be great
Never mind..........i just discovered the "Public" Hubs on Direct Connect. I can get an average speed of 3-4Kbps, which is acceptable for my dial-up connection
if he gets 4-8 k on k++..he will get that on irc also.. and there are plenty of bots with no minimum limits ..and are happy to potter along at 3/5 .. of course it depends on wat he's trying to DL.. im on 128 k..means about 15 k.total .and i keep 3/4 dl/s..each arnd 3/4 k recommended this ...cause he wants to avoid the waiting time on emule.. and irc ,,if u know how to find free slots..ur on immdly..
lol and what channels do you be on? cause a public channel, especially one with a bot with NO minimum speed requirements would have a massive queue!
I use soulseek which is good for searches of electronic music but not very stable... i get 4-5kbps on dial up. Are there any other p2p's worth looking at? Ive tried winmx, kazaa, morpheus, edonkey etc..
Yeah I've tried newsgroups and IRC but didn't like them much. This was a couple of years ago though... Damn Soulseek has gone down (yet agaqin). Stability required in a good p2p
yes it's true, there are actually channels dedicated specifically for 56K users. unfortunately most of them are 56K bots so they only allow 1 send at a time, some allow more but each person gets around 1K on the download. so by the time it takes to download something you could probably run around the neighborhood and collect aluminum cans to change in for money to get a cable connection. or get a shell account and use it to download, then spend a week on the 56k downloading from your shell (ahhh those were the days hehehe)
I personally live in a non cabled area and outside range of adsl. Satellite is an option but I've now decided to move into an adsl enabled area where I can indulge myself in 2mb/sec bliss
