A program like that is called a video editing program ;-)
There are many of those around. On this page you will find a number of well known companies that deliver such programs: http://www.digitalvideoclub.com/siteinfo/suppliers.php
If you're not looking for something fancy and don't want to spend money you can of course use MS MovieMaker included in XP. Another freeware programs is VirtualDUB, but it is not very user friendly if you are new to video editing.

DVD Creator from Intervideo can be used to edit and join video files and when it is working is easy to use, just drag the files into the program and edit into a movie, but!!!! semi expensive at $69.95, Main problem is if you have a software problem, Intervideo does not provide Customer support that is of any use, usually do not answer requests for help other than an instant autoreply to your email address and once the product activation key expires in 10 or so days their reactivation instructions do not work, they have your $69.95 and you have nothing!

You didn't say what format but Womble mpeg editors are very good and don't re-encode.

I tried using VirtualDub to join two avi files (DivX Codec), the video is fine but the audio plays a high pitched beep at the point of joining, and is too quiet after that point. Does anyone know how to fix this problem, as the program doesn't have much in the way of troubleshooting info.

I tried AVI/MPEG/RM/WMV Joiner and it didnt work.

Thanks for Easy Video Joiner ( http://www.doeasier.org/joiner/ ) it works awsome, it joined all my videos, that the other programs wouldnt join, it was quick too. Thanks again.

I didnt get a chance to try WOMBLE's new program: MPEG Video Wizard, formally VCR, if i do get around to it, ill report back.

MPEG Video Wizard doesn't work with AVI files.

Easy Video Joiner works with all types of files. It's quick and not expersive at $19.95. It has lifetime updates as well.
