It's about my birthday and I was thinking of getting a new burner. I'm still using one of the first pioneer models. Anyone have recommendations?
hpeine I got mine at the site below and only paid $41.00 for it and I think it's a great burner. It's a NEC and the site has alot of other type burners and some great priced items and they give very fast service with a year warranty and replacement if anything goes wrong with it. Give them a check see.....Good luck they have alot of great stuff and it's cheap... http://www.tigerdirect.com/indexus.asp?SRCCODE=WEBOVETD&CMP=KNC-OVERTURE
Ditto on pazzini's BenQ suggestions,I don't have any experience with the other two. You can't go wrong with any of the those BenQ models.
pioneer is good but i heard i believe on this site thaty they are quitting to make the dvd burners so dont go that route i have two in process of changing them both out ciao
I have a Pioneer AO8 and a BenQ 1655 and the BenQ is slightly better, IMO. Another factor to bear in mind is,I believe BenQ was incorporated into Lite-On whose support is terrible but, then again, from what I've read of BenQ, you won't need it.
Eveyone has their own Brand/Model they like. Me, I have 4 LG GSA-4167B Super Multi Burners. They are Dustproof, silent, and easy to find firmware for. They will burn ANY media, very good at Dual Layer, and will support all formats. They have never given me any problems at all. You can get the retail drive with a Great software package included for $48.99 Free Shipping. Here: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=174241
How come I can't get my SHM-165H6S to go a screen where I could choose the programs to open my DVD movie? All it does is straight away going to the windows explorer with the 2 folders, AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS.....Can someone pls help me.
Sorry, I can't help. I'm sure the SHM-165H6S is a good burner but is the reason I now have the BenQ and say their support is pathetic. My problem was that burns were always completed at 3x no matter what speed I selected and half of those were defective. BTW, I was using 8x taiyo Yuden. A reply from Lite-On support took 10 days and was of no help. Even worse was not knowing if my email had even been received as they don't even have an electronic response. Just my experience.
If you prefer +R, go with BenQ. If you like -R, go with NEC. Watch for daily specials at newegg.com. Should be able to get either of these drives for under $40.
Another vote for either of the benq 1640, 1650, or 1655. Can't go wrong with any of em and their some of the least expensive drives on the market. I like my litey too but my benq will rip pressed DL dvd's about 3-4 minutes faster on average.
This thread pretty much puts to rest any doubt about BenQ's performance, http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/330512/2092920-43671 Hi Marty
