Hey folks, I'm looking for a new DVD recorder, but things have changed a bit since the last time I bought one, so I have a few questions.

I have basic cable and I'm happy with that, I don't have a cable or satellite box. Do all modern DVD recorders require a separate box to convert the cable to a different type of input cable?

Also, and most importantly, these are the requirements I have for a DVD recorder.

    1. Must play DivX, Xvid, and Mpeg. VCD and SVCD are nice, but optional.

    2. Must be able to record one channel and watch another! Otherwise, whats the d@mn point?

Does anyone know any models that fit this bill?

    Thanks.

I just purchased a Panasonic DMR-E227 DVD recorder. It plays DivX and so far I haven't tried Xvid but I'm pretty sure it can handle it. It has a built in digital tuner so it can record one channel while watching others.

In short, I'm happy with it.
