i got an athlon xp 1700+ cpu, ati rx 9550 agp vid card, 768 meg ddr pc 2700 ram. what is some of the newer popular games that my system can handle?
With that spec and for FPS games, I would EASILY reccomend Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory!! It's fantastic multi-player and although based on an older graphics engine now, plays awesomely. It is solely Multi-Player though, but best of all, it is completely FREE!!! You could also get away with playing CS:Source (HL2 Engine), although you would miss some niceities and have to probably turn the detail down, the game is still one of the most popular games on-line. Its sister game being CS (HL1 Engine), which is overtime probably the most popular on-line FPS game ever! BF2 is very popular now, but it is a system hog, so I'd try it's first incarnation which was BF1942, great fun although maybe not as popular now 2 is out. Now all those 4 are multiplayer so they may not help too much. The best single player games are all newer ones and honestly I don't know how well they would run, although they all have demos you could try. Half-life 2 COD 2 F.E.A.R Quake 4 Doom 3 All these come to mind, heavy graphics, single player and multi-player available. If you don't mind older looking games and want single-player then you could try and grab copies of some old classics Half-Life Thief 2 Deus-Ex Alien vs. Predator Halo, maybe. (although it's graphics aren't old perse, they aren't as nice as the ones mentioned earlier) Hope this helps and have fun on whatever you decide.
i tried out doom 3 demo, it plays pretty good. f.e.a.r. and quake 4 i havent tried yet, the req are higher than doom 3, but ill try to find demo's on those too. i was wanting multi player type of 1st person shooter.
Yeah, I've not tried quake4 yet but F.E.A.R definately can hammer a system if you turn all details up!! i downloaded fear demo, its awsome! i suck tho. im real rusty on these 1st person shooters. last one i played pvp was T0m Clancey's black thorn. i was pretty good then. the gameplay online was smooth as long as i let the auto detect the settings. if i set everything to high its choppy.
Yeah I know what you mean, can take a while to get into the swing on some of these games....lot of good players out there. It's good that it works even if you can't have it on high, it's always nice to have some eye candy turned on, but when it's at the cost of framerate, it loses it's advantage.
I have all the games mentioned, yet i still always go back to Urban Terror, it is a free mod for quake 3 (can be found for under twenty dollars) is still very popular, and easily the best first person to date. Sure the graphics are way outdated, but the ability to move around and the perfected weapon list makes it great! www.urbanterror.net

I've got a few that I use between most games I play. On Enemy Territroy it was either ET Noob, Cannon Fodder or Dead Man Walking. As you can tell my my names, I'm not the best player around, but I love online games...'specially if I manage to win You play it much i_suck?

You might just be able to get farcry running ok on that spec with a bit of tweaking, if not try UT2K4.
