Okay, so for the longest time, I've been using Nero OEM with my burner, but after re-formatting my HD and re-installing Windows, I can't get Nero to re-install. I tried to get a trial version of Nero 7 but that's not working for me either. Eventually I know I'll probably shell out the 70 odd bucks to get a properly working version of Nero again, but in the meantime, I need *Some* Kind of burning software. The current issue is - money. I've got a lot of extra bills in the next three months that are basically going to sapp my normal funds for upgrades, etc. So what I'm asking - does anyone know of any good FREE burning software? I'm sure there's some out there somewhere that I can use until I get this Nero problem fixed . . . any suggestions? Any that I should stay away from at all costs? Thanks. ~~ Kaileen.
Yes there is burning software out there that is free. Here is a site to go to and guides that will help you. @Arniebear, a good choice. Also available free but only for 21 days is AnyDVD and CloneDVD2. Both available at slysoft site, if it's something more permanent then go with Arniebears combo.
I already have Decryptor, and Shrink - and while they are good for video, the thing is I'm also looking for something that can do Data DVD . . . not just video. Preferably something with the functionality that Nero had. Any suggestions along those lines? Thanks again. ~ Kaileen
The latest version of Nero 6 , v6.6.1.4, is causing problems for many. Go with an older version. I had problems with the last Nero 7 update and went back to the previous version. Guess Nero didn't road test the last batch of software very well. Sometimes Nero updates turn out to be more problems than what they were meant to solve. That's the problem dealing with trials. VSO, Pinnacle, and Sonic (aka Roxio) may have trials that will tide you over for a while. Save the bucks and get a stable burning suite. That way, when the updates head south, you'll still have the original to fall back on.
I updated to the newest 6.6.1.4 Nero and am having some drive difficulties with it, IMHO I think they have incorporated some of 7 in it and this is causing problems. The newest 7 update from what I hear is not running smoothly for a lot of users. Unfortunately for me I see a reformat on the horizon to correct some of this Nero stuff by doing a complete clean out.
Brobear..... I had no idea that Sonic is Roxio!!! When I bought my computer it already had Sonic on there! I put in Nero and that run flawlessly (old version of Nero-- I don't use Recorde--- just for burning!) and I don't have any problems with Sonic and Nero running on the same computer as I had when I had Roxio Creator CD and Nero together! maybe they left something out in the Sonic programs than what they have in the Roxio suit!? Who knows.... who cares.... just so long as my computer runs great with all the software that's on it now! right?
I too do not have any problems with Sonic and Nero. Had it on my old Dell and now the new one. Dell is shipping it out bundled. Sure beats the heck out Roxio which I have always thought was a poo program.
well...... all I know is that I love a few programs that I use to burn with..... all of VSO programing, DVDFab Platinum, and DVDDEcryter, DVD-Rebuilder with CCE are all I need to get by and I have many more, too! I pick and choose which one I use and I haven't had any problems with any of them.... just make sure all is up to date and there isn't a prob! The only thing is DVDDecrypter.... I only use it on older movies. Just wish that Lightning would never have let it go due to big brother!!!!! DVDD is still king of the hill [bold]IMO[/bold]
The arrows mark the spot. Roxio, Nero, and Pinnacle all shared a common problem for backing up DVD movies; batch writing software that, when on, interfered with connections by other burner apps. Drag-to-Disk, InCD and InstantWrite were culprits as well as batch writing apps from other sources. Some people could just turn them off, InCD had to be removed in many cases as did Drag to Disc. Different systems react differently, some people had to remove Roxio altogether, some people never had problems . I used Roxio and liked the interface for audio recording and playback. I just haven't felt the need to reload it following the last format. I did have to turn off Drag-To-Disc when recording and when I load Nero, I leave out the InCD.
I'm sure many people who read your reply will avoid the conflicts now that you mentioned it! Thanks for clearing things up! I'm just glad I don't have any conflicts with any of my programs and all works great for me.
