I am looking for as close as possible of an alternative to Nero vision Express for converting video files such as AVI to DVD-9 format. I want something that will allow me to easily create menus and chapters. Thanks for any and all suggestions. I plan to return to Nero 6 and want to ditch Nero 7.
well...... ConvertXToDVD is a great program and you can try it out for free....... it does leave a watermark logo in the free trial but you can see how it works and it's great! fast too! and will convert and burn right to disk...... just set the setting and go..... can make any menu you want with audio too! http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/
Well the problem with ConvertXtoDVD is that I need to be able to create chapters at random points not intervals of X seconds.
Nero Vision does OK for me. It seems to me that when you want something easy, it becomes simplistic. You could try TMPGEnc DVD Author. This program is slightly more advanced than Nero Vision and is strictly an authoring program. http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tda20.html You would need to use a .avi to mpeg converter. Like a lot of the higher end authoring programs, it will only accept MPEG or DVD-Video files. Others to look at: Ulead DVD MovieFactory: http://www.ulead.com/store/dmf/runme.htm#plus DVD Lab: http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/ These are the ones I can think of at the moment. I'm sure there are more. It's hard to beat Nero for all that it can do.
I agree with fasfrank, so far I haven't experienced any bugs with Nero regardless if it's Nero Vision, Burning Rom, Express, ShowTime, etc. Yes, Nero Vision can create Chapters & Menu easily.
Well I was good in the bug department for the most part. My problem with NVE in V7 is encode times. What would be a ~2 hour encode job on Nero V6 becomes a ~4-5 hour encode job in V7. I have dealt with the encode times for awhile but I am a bit fed up with a 2 hour project taking 4 hours on a ~90 minute video.
Xplorer4 , your drives have probably slipped into PIO mode where as they need to be in DMA mode you can fix that in device manager or use this guide http://bbmayo.home.comcast.net/FAQ.htm
Maybe a good stand-alone encoder is what you need. You could give CCE-Basic a try. It's supposed to be fast. http://www.visiblelight.com/mall/productview.aspx?sku=cceb You would still need to author the video to add the menu and chapters. Here are some comments about it: http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Cinema_Craft_Encoder I use Main Concept's encoder with Premiere Pro for my encoding. Mainly Camcorder stuff. I'll get CCE basic at some point because I want to start using DVD Rebuilder and CCE can replace my Premiere Pro Main Concept encoder.
Pretty sure that wasnt the case as I just switched back to Nero 6 earlier and encode times are back in the 2 hour range. Nero 7 encode times used to match Nero 6 encode times but after a few burns slipped into the 4 hour range. Thanks to all those who have suggested programs.
