Do you have a modded ps2?
and this is a really hard thing to find becuse not really many people use the network adapter.

you don't need the network adapter installation disc. all online games have a network setup section in them just use that. It is possible to play online with a modded ps2 just turn the mod off for original games (If you can't turn it off then you can't play original games online) or patch backups with a DNAS ID. Do a search there's a lot of threads on how to do it.

only way you can find out for sure is open up the ps2 take a look at the chip and try to compare it to others or compare booting procedures to other mods or if there's any kind of special message when the ps2 boots up (the newer mods I think show the name of the mod on the screen when booting up don't quote me on this though as I am not 100% sure).
