Toshiba D-VR5 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...CategoryId=pcmcat13900050019&id=1140391906702 Insignia NS-DRVCR http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...CategoryId=pcmcat13900050019&id=1134701665694 The Toshiba's probably better, but look them up on videohelp.com under DVD recorders or players on the left to get some user reviews.
i was looking at the dvr16 . are the other 2 better than this one . also would like it to have a slot on it for reading cards to put photos straight onto disk
A quick look at Videohelp.com's DVD Recorder database doesn't have anything to say about any of them. I think I saw something posted on their forums but I didn'y do a search. The devices I listed do not have media card readers but the Toshiba looks like it'll play just about anything (incl. MPEG-4 and DVD-RAM discs) and my experiences with Toshiba have been entirely positive. HTH.
so what would you say would be the best dvd recorder which as media slot for your camera but not a combi. but it must play divx well it must play everything . also on these dvd recorder players is it possible to update the software on them divx is changing all the time . my mate as got just a player and he said that some divx it cant play needs the firmware updated or something
Good luck! It's hard enough to find a DVD Recorder that even does an "acceptable" job at recording, let alone one with good Divx and a media slot. Personally, I would like to find a decent recorder (maybe a Pioneer if I can still get one) and use my separate DVD player for the DVD and Divx playback, both to save wear-and-tear on the recorder and because I know you are lucky enough just to find a decent recorder. You can try that videohelp link I mentioned. I don't think they list whether or not a recorder has a media slot - very few do - so you'd have to go to retailer's websites to actually find that out. Lots of recorders support Firewire and/or USB so if you can reach your computer with a cable, maybe that'll be better than a card slot.
I purchased the Toshiba D-VR5 and I must say that I'm a little frustrated with it. It's my first dvd recorder so I don't have much to compare with but here are my comments. The video quality is bad so far. I have only recored in the mode which gives me 2 hours of video but my recordings look like vhs quality. Another thing that bothers me is that when you press record it takes about 10 seconds before it actually starts recording. I still have to mess around with it, but if anyone out ther has this and has any comments please write back.
If you can still return it then, do so. If you're going to get VHS quality, no need to buy a whole new recorder to get it.
