I have converted vhs to dvd using Pinnacle Studio 8, this programme is however limited to 1 hour per disc, to get up to four hours I use dvdlab, the edited video file is converted to MPEG using pinnacle, I then inport the file to dvdlab and compile to vob etc there. My problem is this, every now and again I lose all audio in my compiled dvd, It is not particular to if the mpeg file is demuxed or not, often if I demux the audio time lags so I prefer not to. The only reason I can see why you would loose the audio is if the Audio is in the wrong format to begin with or you Forgot to drag the audio file up to the Movie window... Have you ever considered useing something better for captureing and Encodeing your VHS Tapes?? Pinnacle Studio 8/9 is well known for Haveing a Very low Quality mpeg encoder and it"s Mpeg2 capture is Pretty bad also.... I have been able to get up to 6 hours of Fair quality video on a DVD by Captureing My Video to a Low compression AVI format like useing the HuffYUV Codec and then useing a High Quality Standalone Mpeg encoder like CCE SP or Canopus Procoder or the Mainconcept Encoder to encode the Captured files to Mpeg2 useing the SIF/CIF DVD format and use Dolby AC3 for the Audio.... Cheers PS: You should allways make DVDLab demux the Files or you do it yourself before authoring to DVD because DVD"s must have a specific Mux rate and if you do not let DVDLab demux and remux then the Mux rate will be Off and you might loose the Audio or even worse the Video might not play Smoothly....
Thanks Minion, I have downloaded HuffyUV and installed but dont know how to access it. Once installed no Icon appears etc Is it an actual program with an icon? or is it just a process?, I have also now got CCE SP to encode captured files. Pretty soon I should be on my way
HuffyUV is a codec so you access it like any AVI codec, You will have to use an AVI Capture program to capture your Files ,You can probably even use Studio 8/9 to capture to AVI useing the Codec or if not then a freeware program like Virtual_VCR can be used to capture to AVI...You will also need a LOT of Disk space for the captured files because HUFFYUV compressed AVI files are not very compressed so they can take as Much as 30GB per Hour of Video... If you want to Try an easier method then you can Try Captureing your Files directly to Mpeg2 useing "Intervideo WinDVR 3.0" as it is one of the best quality Mpeg capture programs...... Cheers
