i have a really small fujitsu hard disk 9.52 gig.

the trouble is when i check the properties of my hard disk from My Computer it says used space is 5.60 gig. but when i go inside it and check the size of all my files it is only 2.50 gig.

my filing system is NTFS. cud it be becoz of the filing system?

as i said earlier i have a small hard disk and these 3 gigs can make a world of difference.

please try to help me out.

    thanx in advance.

Is the recycle bin empty, have you done a disc clean up or a de-frag lately?

BTW, please be patient, we are all here of our own volition! This is a massive forum.

I had a similar problem and only found by accident when I was searching for something, some of the avi files had, which you know are a minimum of around 700MB) got into mysterious places like documents and settings when I thought they had been deleted. I am afraid you will need to look through every file you have. I experimented by trying to remember some of the big files I had recently deleted and then I typed them in search and that is when I found them.

I was going on the assumption that he/she had gone through ALL the files in the PC!

    sorry about my impatientce.

    yeah recycle bin is empty.

the anlysis in the defrag said that there is no need to defrag this volume.

yup, i have gone thru every file no large files.

    thanx a lot

apparently, i have not made myself clear. the size of ALL my files is 2.5 gig, whereas the in the properties of my drive it says that used space is 5.6 gig.

whu is using this mysterious 3 gig?

The missing 3 gig could show up when you do a disk clean up! The files can hide themselves out of normal sight!

That's why I asked if you have done a disc clean up!

I havent misunderstood what you said and I am trying to say that I had hidden files that took up about 2GB without me realising. This was on an 80GB so I hadnt noticed until I started clearing everything off and I cant remember if I was defragging or scanning and I noticed an old file which I had deleted some weeks before.
Was this a gradual thing or are you saying you got up one morning and suddenly found 3GB had gone?

I take it when I say disc clean up you meant Crap cleaner? If this is the case you are barking up the wrong tree!

Click on start, click on my computer, right click your "C" drive/properties. Hit the disc clean up button. Depending on when you last did this & your PC specs it could take a while!
Once it has done it, make sure the following boxes are ticked,

    Downloaded prog files
    temp internet files
    Recycle bin
    Compress old files

Hit OK, it will ask if you are sure, hit yes & let the machine do the work!

    Wow, post 2500!
    Cue trumpet fanfare!
