Hi all, I need a bit of help if anyone is so inclined. I have been here and on other forums here and have always found most folks to be helpful and patient, thank God! To begin, I am blind, yes, blind, and use a talking computer to do all my computer tasks, including burning movies and cd’s for myself and my husband. I use a speech synth. Software called Jaws. If any of you are curious as to how it works with a computer and programs such as Nero, you can download a demo at their site: www.freedomscientific.com In fact, it may help you to help me if you see what I am working with here. My problem is, I have tried following the help files on the Nero smart start page but they are all but useless in my opinion. I am running Nero OEM 6.0.0.28 and am trying to burn a DVD from files on my computer. I have already run the original file through Any DVD and DivsToDVD and the Video TS folder is created. When I first open Nero Smart Start, it asks me to choose my disk type. I do. I choose DVD. Then, it wants my category. I choose Make DVD Video and at that point, if I understand this process, I am suppose to choose a recorder. There is no drop down box anywhere to choose a recorder from the time I open the program until the time I get to this point. I know there was one there once before but God only knows what I have clicked on inadvertently ‘cause it sure isn’t there now, by God! I have tried clicking on DVD video disk as for my project but I think I read somewhere that after you choose a burner, which I can’t, you choose “Burn video files” or some such thing. Argh! I really need some help. Have any of you seen my recorder? If so, please return it immediately or tell me where to find it! ) I am using a NEC DVD RW ND-3520A recorder and running windows XP, home edition. If you can get me as far as finding the recorder drop down box, then maybe you could tell me what to do from there. I did get that far a couple of times and then clicked on burn DVD files but when it said to add the files you want, I selected the ones that were in the video TS folder of the movie I want to burn and clicked add then finish. It says on the Nero window that I have used 944 or so MB of space but it says 0 bytes on the Video TS folder that I am supposed to put them in and the burn button is greyed out. Hope this makes sense… In fact, it shows them listed on that same window but they are not inside the Video TS folder where they belong. Keep in mind, I am keyboard driven with Jaws, so cannot Drag and Drop. Oddly enough, I managed to go through the whole process one time with success but then got a Disk Failure error when trying to play the DVD in our stand alone DVD player. Oh, I am using Verbatim DVD’s and DVD_RW’s. I got sic of wasting DVD’s so write to RW’s first to see if they are going to play on our DVD player. Thanks for reading and for any and all help proffered. Best Regards, Lynn (GaLady P.S. If you download Jaws to test run it with Nero, please let me know if you need to know any of the most common keystrokes used such as right and left mouse click, how to maneuver through it, etc., etc.
hello firstly let me say that i have read some threads on here in 3 years, but this one stands out, all i can say is wow and can see it must be difficult and frustrating, you must have the patience of a saint... ok do you really need nero? as i would use dvd shrink and burn with dvd decrypter! in dvd shrink options there is a drop down box after you click backup button it will allow a few different options of what to do with the files one is make iso file and burn with dvd decrypter, so try that dvd decrypter should popup after then you may have to click go in that if you disc swap
Hi, Actually, I use Clone DVD2 most of the time to burn my movies. It works nicely with Jaws and is relatively simple for me to maneuver through. I just wanted to give Nero a shot because I was hoping it might have better and more frequent success. A lot of times, when the movies I burn with Clone DVD2 will play on my computer, they will not play on my stand alone. It gets frustrating and expensive, thus the decision to burtn to DVDRW first. Also, I was getting a lot of delayed audio tracks with Clone and I'm not real technical on this stufff so wasn't sure if that was being cause by DivxToDVD or CloneDVD2 or just the compilation of the downloaded movie. (Shrug) As for the patience of a sait, nah. Just damned hard headed and stubborn like many of us on here. It's become personal now with me and this freaking burning stuff and I'm determined to win. LOL! At any rate, thanks for your advice. And, oh, not sure if this is the right forum for this but if any of you are interested, I have discovered a free file sharing program called BearShare and it's much, much faster than Kaaza Light. It's at: www.bearshare.com I bought a membership but haven't noticed a whole lot of diference in download time to tell you the truth. You would probably do just as well with the free version. I did. hi the thing with the standalone player not working could be the media used! i use RITEK G O 5, g o 5 being the inside disc dye type / formula there are 2 apps to read dye info of discs one is dvdinfo pro and dvd identifier use these to se what dye type you have, but being your blind it may not read the info out loud to you? but if you get good burns and they play on the pc then its more than likely the disc used your standalone cant read it, - R are more compatible than + R, you can booktype + R to dvdrom to make it better for playing. i dont use clone dvd and rarely use divxtodvd, it could be the actual file is bad before you start? for avi to dvd i use film machine or avi2dvd both free apps and very dam good, for mpeg to dvd i use mianconcept to get mpeg2 dvd conplaint files then drop them in tmpgenc dvd author to make vobs and burn hope this helps abit?
Thanks so much for all that info. I'll definitely give the programs a look see... so to speak. ) Jaws will only read graphics that have been tagged with text labels and therefore, some programs are out of the question. So are ones that require me to drag and drop. For now, I'll go ahead and finish the ones I have downloaded with Clone DVD just to get them off my hard drive. I did figure out the nero thinkg... eventulaly, but now I'm getting an error when I go to play it that says something to the efect of file compilation error or something like that. Oh well, Clone works pretty well and next time I have a sighted techno friend here, I'll get them to help pme with Nero and probably label some graphics so Jaws can speak them. Thanks for all your help. GaLady/Lynn
