    Hi up2nogud.

There is only one sympton which I see in your HijackThis log which shows malware. You can remove the following entries:

    F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,C:\WINDOWS\system32\wscript.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\AVG.vbs

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

How do you know that you are infected? What are some symptons you have?

I will also advise downloading A-squared Free, and running a scan with it in safe mode, fully updated. Do not remove anything; only post the log here.

You might also want to update your windows service pack and internet explorer, unless you prefer to use firefox. Also, I see that you have both AVG and McAfee. Having two antiviruses on your system at the same time is not recommended, as there could be conflicts which slow down your system. However, we could make use with these two antiviruses for now; boot into safe mode and scan with them. Quarantine all detected items.

    Best Regards :D

Thanks...ive removed the specified files from HJT.

AVG reported a virus and on scanning a particular folder it detected some 65 infected files.I deleted the folder subsequently.

I tried scanning using AVG in safe mode before....but the safe mode never boots fully (it gets stuck on the desktop screen without any icons or the start button and the computer becomes unresponsive).

    Hi up2nogud.

Please download Antivir Rescue CD from here http://dl.antivir.de/down/vdf/rescuecd/rescuecd.exe

    - download it to a clean system (other than your infected computer)
    - launch rescuecd.exe file and place a blank CD in your writer unit
    - choose your burning device from the drop down list and press burn button. Please wait unitl disc is created. At the end you should see a success message
    - place the rescue disc in the infected computer and boot from it. Choose optiopn 2 (Boot from Rescue CD)
    - choose English language and watch the progress at the end of the boot, you should see a menu
    - choose the second option: "Scan your system with AntiVir"

Also, I recommend uninstalling AVG for now.

    Best Regards :D
