The movies ive downloaded or ripped always have the problem of low volume of the characters voices compared to relatively loud ambient noices in the movie does anyone know a solution? I found this explanation after a bit of searching on the net but does anyone know how to fix it? "Most of the time the reason the audio is so low, from AC?.? to stero is because the filter doesn't remux the streams the best way, and so 'ambiant' noise is overly-baised to the voice tracks. This is difficult to fix properly on the fly, and so useually ends up with very quiet voice - and normal volume sound fx."
I'm assuming that these are AVI files and audio is stereo, also I don't know a one-step tool to do this. It does seem odd to me that all of your downloads have this problem, but if it's so, then perhaps 'normalizing' the audio might offer some help, as simply bumping up the volume merely amplifies everything. Normalizing, evens out the range between the loudest and quietest parts of the audio. It's often used when the loud explosions have to be dialed down on the player, then dialed up to hear the actors VirtualDub can extract the audio (saves it as a wav file)and Audacity can normalize it and export as a new wav file - there are additional steps that have to be taken with VirtualDub before saving the new AVI file - namely installing the Lame MP3 audio codec to convert the wav to mp3.
