1st: I am a computer dunce so I always need help. Right now I am trying to convert my record collection from LPs to CDs. I believe I have the proper hook up from my amplifier to my PC--at least my record can be played thru the PC. Using Nero 6 Ultra Edition I have followed the instructions all the way to the end. I select "Burn Project Immediately" Everything seems to start running but nothing is burned to the CD. I know I must be doing something wrong but am mystified as to what that is. Any help will be appreciated. Please use very basic language because of my lack of computer knowledge. Thank You, Jack
Does Nero 6 use SoundTrax to convert the LPs? Are you showing the levels when recording and do you show the imported files on the tracks? Does you system burn other CDs normally? I just finished doing my records and used a combination of Wave Editor and SoundTrax. I did not use the burn immediately option, but waited until I had added track names and such before I burned the compilation.
i think you need to have a audio card with audio in, most systems don't have that kind of card, i might be wrong, if you have one of theese cards , i would copy the lp audio to my hard drive first and clean it up to make sure you are not puting garbage on a cd, you know what i meen pops clicks hiss stuff like that, and after you get the audio cleaned up just burn to disk with nero, but make sure you save the audio to a format that will play on most any device like regular audio, hope that helps, if it did, have you tryed doing a google search on this? this link might help http://www.acoustica.com/spinitagain/faq.asp?qID=239
Thank you for your prompt reply. I don't know whether I have the type of audio card you suggest. I do have a "Line In" connection on my PC and have linked the amplifier to the PC thru that connection. The result is that I can play LPs thru my PC. I recognize that I may ultimately have to buy a piece of software to accomplish this but since I already have Nero and Nero says it can do this I want to see if I can get it to work. Jack
You probably want to download the help file for SoundTrax and go through those procedures. I would suggest saving often since it seemed to error out on occasion. http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Uder_Guides_SoundTrax.html The program can do what you want, but there doesn't seem to be much in writing about how to use it and what options are available, but you might check. One of the largest problems I had was dividing the CD tracks, which may be automatic for you, just depends on what you want. I also had a problem if I converted the captured files to .aac, when the CD was burned the track positions would not line up with the audio, so tracks would overlap. I solved that by using either .aif or PCM .wav files. You did not mention if you are actually able to capture the audio... when recording you must make sure to use either "Line In", or possibly "Stereo Mix"
Saltgrass, Several articles I have seen over past few weeks have included statements to the effect that you cannot burn directly from lp to cd. Which is what I think you are suggesting. I have been trying to burn directly because Nero seems to be telling me that I can. I am not resisting the idea of saving first then burning. I just don't know how to do it. In other words in the absence of specific options such as: Save on Hard drive or Copy to hard drive, my PC ignorance limits me. How do I do those things? Thanks for your prompt reply, Jack
We need to confirm you can capture the audio from the LP. So far, I cannot tell if you are. Because you can hear it, means you should be able to capture, but maybe not. When you record, do you have an option for inputs, and do you show the volume level meters? I am speaking of using SoundTrax--are you using that utility? SoundTrax has a wizard when you open it to record LPs to CD. You can use it, but you still have to make sure the correct audio source is available.
I don't know what Sound Tracks is. I am using Nero--Wizard--convert lp to cd option. I can hear the music thru my PC. I agree that may not mean anything. I do have an option for "Line In" which is what I have been selecting. I do see volume options and have been selecting a level less than 100%. ?????? Jack
If you are using that wizard, then you are probably using SoundTrax. After you record, can you play back the audio? I feel like there is some basic misunderstanding about exactly where you are. If you are using SoundTrax, it should state such on the top left of the window. You may also see a LP to CD wizard, which has the recording buttons. You would pick Audio Input line as Line In, and probably not check the Digital Monitoring. When you hit the record button, the timer starts and shows how much you have recorded. When you hit the stop button, you get a step 2 window, where you can automatically detect CD tracks (cuts). Next is step 3 and Noise Reduction for hiss and clicks. Step 4 is CD Compilation, where you can choose to burn immediately, or not. If you do not burn immediately, SoundTrax will open back up and allow you to edit or work with the sound files. If you choose burn immediately, it will just burn what you have after the prior steps. Do a test project and do not check "Burn Immediately" then check SoundTrax to see if you can play the sound files with it. You need to download the user guide and go through it.
Right you are! There is a big misunderstanding of where I am and it's me who doesn't understand. As I read your last post it begins to dawn on me that I may not have waited for the recording to finish before I clicked on the "Next" option. I believe I chose the record option and immediately tried to go to the next step. I will try again and see what happens if I'm patient. Thanks a lot. I think I may be getting somehwere. I will let you know how it comes out. Jack
Saltgrass, I have put my lp to cd project aside until after Christmas. Well, here it is. Thought when I read your last post that I had the key--wrongo!! today I have: recorded the lp, checked for "noise", proceeded to the burn now option. Nero then "prepares the file for burning--a few minutes--then starts to burn the cd. I'm not sure what happens now because there is nothing on the disc. I named the file. when I look for it on the disc the named file seems to be there But no music. At one point a balloon popped up on the lower left corner of my screen telling me that I have a file to be burned to a cd--click on the balloon for further info. When I tried to do that the balloon disappeared and I cannot get it back. When I do a search for the file by file name I'm told it doesn't exist . I've considering upgrading my Nero program but if it's this hard work with what would be the point????????????
Nero should give you an "Audio CD Recorder" window which gives you the options of which recorder to use and several options along with the ability to name the tracks. After that you hit burn. Do you get that window? The only time I have seen a balloon window saying you have files to be burned was when using the Windows CD burner utility. Nero should not do that. If Windows is doing it, the files as stored as mentioned below. Do you show any files in this area? "In My Computer, double-click the CD recording drive. Windows displays a temporary area where the files are held before they are copied to the CD. Verify that the files and folders that you intend to copy to the CD appear under Files Ready to be Written to the CD."
As you can see, I am easily frustrated and when a program won't do what I think it should do---I walk away for a couple of days or weeks. Re: Audio CD Recorder window No I don't get that window. I went to My Computer found a file on a CD with the name I gave to the LP. Selected Burn This to a CD and got Nero Sound Trax. Followed steps there. Program prepared file for burning then burned it. The file had 24mins of sound--about right for the side of the LP. Problem: When I try to play the CD there is no sound. I have tried to start from the beginning ie redoing the entire project, but cannot get past changing the target before I get a message: "Nero Sound Trax has encountered a Problem and needs to close down..." I begin to think Nero is just too hard to work with. I appreciate all your input. Thanks, Jack
Righty..here's my little guide to converting from LP/Cassette (analog audio) to CD. Find either cubase studio or a handy little application called dbpoweramp, which has an audio recorder built in. Then when it is up and running find the line in/grab analog audio stream function and record your source to the HDD. Make a folder with the same name as the lp and put the tracks in there.. It's best to rip track by track as volume on analog sources can be all over the place for levels. Now this is where db poweramp scores double..you can convert your captured audio into just about any format you want, it captures to either wav or flac as default, but you can change that either while you are grabbing everything, or later to whatever you wish. even strangers like .shn. Then also with dbpoweramp you can edit the mp3 tags..how cool?? Once you have your audio files you can just make them into an audio cd with nero..burn audio cd..dbpoweramp comes with a burning app.. I just don't use it. Check it out..it's exactly what you need.. http://www.dbpoweramp.com/
