I bought a Liteon Lvw-5005 recorder on last saturday from Walmart. After I setup and connect all cables. Check all functions and found the metal noise from av-1 front. Anyone has that problem or any solution. Otherwise , it is a good recorder with such lower price. If nobody has that problem I may consider to return it.

    Hi:
I have better results using the rear av connections. There have been posts that the front av connections are not shielded properly, resulting in noise on the dvd. What is a metal sound? A better description may get more responses.

I got the reply from the customer service and ask me to return the unit for repairing. I don't know as what you said that it is not properly sheilded. Look like it is very common defective from the factory. Eventhough I upgraded both firmwares the smytom still there, but not the other brands. What I meant the metal noise which is pulsing like hitting metal and it is annoying. I plan to open the cover to check whether any cold joints, especially the sheild to the ground. Thanks for your reply.

    microunit,

The noise on the front inputs on most LiteOn/ILO recorders is a known issue. Do not use them. They are getting noise from the display used in the recorder. Aways use the back inputs. If you are looking to connect more than 1 source to the recorder, get a cheap video switchbox from Radio Shack. They work great.

    Gtrman,
Thanks for your reply. I would like to know whether it can be fixed in the near future. Do you have the same problem on your unit? How can you tell it is known issue. After the further troubleshooting it comes from left input. This coming weekend I may open the cover and try to find out where the problem is. Will you know the result.

I, myself, have the ILO HD04. Both ILO R04 and HD04 have the same problem. It is a grounding issue on the mainboard that is causing the hum in the front inputs. In one of the may online forums that discuss this, there was one user that found a fix but it meant cutting a trace on the mainboard to isolate the groung for the inputs from the rest. I'll see if I can find it and point you to it.

It is a known issue because most LiteOn/LiteOn Made recorders are made in the same way. This has come up on quite a few different models.

Gtrman, I opened mine yesterday and took some photoes of it. The mother board is 693345W06A302 REV:02 DMN8602A2 and the tuner is ENG36503G. The DVD drive is DDW-813S. I couldn't find anything wrong of it, except there is no proper grounding from the front pannel to the mother board. I suspect the ground is flowing, but why it is only on the left channel, not both. What you said someone cut the ground to isolate the problem, personally I don't think it is good idea. Without ground the front AV-1 port would be useless. Anyway I plan to return it and get another ones to try out, but there is no stock and have to wait till then. Thanks

Gtrman, I am still waiting for your answer of cutting the ground trace to isolate the problem. Thanks you so much if you can provide such valuable information.

    microunit,

I have not done this MOD myself as I do not use the front inputs on the recorder. I have a 4-way AV switch and have all my sources going through that into the rear inputs. This way, all I have to do is select what I want to record from.

I do not recall where I saw the MOD at but my guess it is either here, Techolio.com or VideoHelp.com
