    Is the Mad dog MD-16X3DVD9-8X a relabeled NEC ND-4550A? or a 4570?
I know NEC makes the chipset but not quite sure what model it is.
    Heres the link:

Are the NEC 4xxx series as good as their
    3xxx series burners.
Ive had 2 NEC ND3550A's and they both worked wonders for me. Im wondering if i should get one of their newer ones because i dont really hear much about them.

Newegg also has the 3550A for sale at $30(black OEM)

which one is the better one?

    Thanks
    any advice would be appreciated

It may use NEC chips but other than that, it's a Mad Dog Multimedia product. I want to warn you about this model: It is a very good product but if you plan on burning dual layer DVD's you will need to download a firmware update from the company's website and upgrade the firmware for this drive. If you want to burn DVD+R discs, Mad Dog has a book typing utility that will set the booktype for the burn to DVD-ROM (in the drive) so you can author movies that play in a DVD player. If you don't use this utility, your DVD player won't recognize home-authored DVD movies.
