hey guys, I recently bought a magic 3.1 for my scph-30001 V4 ps2 and modded it myself. Upon finishing, I checked all the wires to ensure that they were in the correct place they needed to be, however, when i started the ps2, original cd/dvd games would work, cd-r's would work, but dvd-r's do not work. I had a swapdisk prior to the modchip, so i tried that and can boot dvd-r's with it. I also tried the alternate "w" point if dvd games don't work on the solder guide, and it still doesn't work. Any idea's guys? If i put in a dvd-r it just spins and tries to read it and gives a DRE, note that I can boot dvd-r's with the magic swap disk. Thanks for your help!
sounds like a dirty laser..clean the laser with compressed air and a q-tip...also you could try playing with the white cog....if cd-r copies work there is nothing wrong with the install...and if you got dvd-r to work with the swap disc there is nothing wrong with the laser... its just dirty...
Lol sadly, no...after fiddling around with it for awhile...my ps2 broke... like uh...when i turn it on, it just spins very slowly and doesn't read it, no matter what media it is. also tried cleaning it and messed w/ the cog wheel etc.. I think the laser is dead..which didn't surprise me because it was giving me a lot of problems earlier before i even got a modchip. Any ideas? I think I'm just gonna buy a new ps2 and mod it again..they're not that expensive nowadays..plus i have all my games and controllers. Thanks for your help though
im having simaler problems but my ps2 wont boot cd's of any type. is there any web sites that i could get instructions on how to fix it
I got a Magic 3 Modchip and it boots normally. Try getting a professional to mod it for you. Cuz i had mines modded by a pro, but th eonly problem with mines is that it doesn't boot some DvDs, lol
