Magnavox MWR10D6 is it good or not??????

Has any used the Magnavox MWR10D6 DVD recorder?

 

I guess I saw this model last night before it is suppose to be released. It's not supposed to be released until May 7th. It is a $98.00 model. And it suppose to Read and Write DVD±R, DVD±RW. I wander if this will replace the ILO or drive the price of the ILO down?

Has anyone else had any experience with Magnavox DVD recorders?

 

We just purchased the Magnavox MWR106 DVD recorder a few days ago at Walmart and it seems to work fine. You have a choice of record modes (time) from 1 hour to 6 hours.

I picked up one of these units on May 12th. I had reservations after working my way thru a couple ilos I and my friends had purchased and wasn't sure I wanted to try another low cost dvd recorder. The carton said it would record on DVD+R/+RW and DVD-R/-RW discs whereas the ilo had stated it would only use +R/+RW (though some people have stated they had sucessfuly used -R/RW's). I felt that if this magnavox would use both, it might be more universal....anyway I thought I'd try it. When I got home, the first thing I liked is that it has a rear fan which the later ilo's did not.....so it doesn't seem to run hot. It records on 8cm and 12cm dvds, the recording speeds were HQ (1hr), SP (2hr), SPP (2.5 hr), LP (3hr), EP (4hr) and SLP (6hr). The recording mode is on the remote and easy to change. It features auto chapters and auto finalizing. It will playback VCD's and MP3's. The direction manual is large and it also has a decent quickstart guide. The manual has a list of recommended brands (ie: TDK, Sony, Maxell and Verbatim) for excellent recording. I had an unopened stack of Maxell DVD+R 8X that was included on their list; I did a quick setup, put a video tape in my VCR and did a timed recording for 90 min and went to bed (it was really late at night, LOL). The next morning both units were off, the Magnavox had recorded the movie, it played it and it looked just like the original tape. It did not finalize it....but I think I did something wrong there.....but that was OK in the end as I was able to edit the title. I tried to finalize it, but I had a very minor problem, but a simple work around was to eject the disc, reload it then hit setup-disc edit-finalize. The disc played in my PC and Apex AD500W with no problems. I have recorded another movie with the same sucess. This is not intended to be a complete report, other posters are going to be more qualified to give that, and I look forward to reading them, but this unit might be a winner.

 

I went to WalMart and got this unit to replace a ILO that works good enough but had several small issues. I have buned a couple of test disc and am very inpressed with the picture quality very sharp on 2 and 2.50 mode haven't tried the others . The menu takes a little getting use to but seems pretty good i'll keep you posted as i experament with it.

 

Bought one for my girlfriend a few days ago and I personally do not like it because it has no DISPLAY on the unit face or OSD during recording? It gives the total time of recording after it is finished.
I am used to having OSD and Display on unit from my many months of use
of iLo 04 unit. After trying 6 blank DVD+R discs we got one to actually record a DVD from a video tape. We took it back to Wal-Mart.

 

It's OK, especially for the price. I actually stumbled upon this unit at the local Wally-world. It was not displayed prominently, but is worth the hunt. My number one thing I don't like about it..the remote control. You'd better have spidey-vision to use this thing...the labeling is microscopic and the buttons are all basically the same size, so it's very difficult to "feel" your way around. Number 2 thing I don't like: any CD/DVD you put in takes quite a while to "read/load" before you can view/listen. Even if you pop a regular music CD in, it takes about 20 seconds before you can listen to it. Whatever...it works OK. I've recorded in several modes and seems to perform well. One thing I didn't expect (and is true with just about all DVD players); if you have an older TV that only has the "cable" jack, you will need to buy a special converter box that can cost $25-$40. I have to give credit to Magnavox, the manual did state that in pretty bold type. Most other manuals barely mention it. Final judgement: It's OK for the money and performs the basics well.

 

I bought one at Sam's. Didn't like the display area in front--no clock. Tried to divide a +RW title--didn't work. Took it back. Not worth the money--the price tag is the only thing I liked about it.

 

Well I am going too pick this up friday for my self.

Need too know if this unit really records on both media and how is the edit menu on the rw disk is it good or bad since I have been using the dual deck emerson recorder and it crapped out but this unit doent have the coaxial hook up and you need the converter or a new tv right plus has anyone used the 6 hour mode.

 

The new Philips DVD recorder is much better. The unit that sells for $144 at Wal Mart. It does DVDR - and DVDR + and DVDRW - or +.
I have had one now for a month. It has never failed one time. Dis[lay on front of unit and OSD.

 

I've done over 150 disc with my maggie and hav'nt had a coaster yet . I film alot of home movies and have converted them to disc also i record a lot of stuff off tv hav'nt had any trouble for anyone looking for a good cheap recorder this is it

 

SAME here This new PHILIPS DVD Recorder is great !

 

I just purchased this model 4 days ago,and recorded several movies,with no problems at all,I think its a great machine for only $120.00 at Walmart.But at first the recordings were not great using the outdated RCA Composite cables for input.So I went and bought an S-Video cable,and ran it from my Satellite Receiver Output to the recorders input,and what a huge improvement in pic. quality!

 

OK, I'm the one who had just purchased one of these back in May. I'm now up to about 150 discs, both + and -, with no problems and no bad burns, so for me this was a winner.

 

can I use this like a regular vcr in other words set timer to record tv show while I am at work?

 

Yes, it has timer recording,just like a vcr.You can set up to 8 programs (once,daily,or weekly),quite easy to use once you try it a couple of times.I use the timer all the time,and no problems at all.

Well,you're basically comparing apples to oranges in that question.The Panasonic has been around alot longer,and has the added features of using Ram discs,chasing playback,variable bit rate recording,firewire input,etc.It also costs about $250.00 CDN in my area.So, ijust needed a machine to replace my VCR,and just to put 1 movie on each DVD disc,in SP 2 hour mode, at a good quality recording,& it records dolby digital soundtrack.And for that, I think my Magnavox does an excellent job.

 

New to this forum..Just wanted to ask if this unit [mwr10d6 magnavox] played Divx [AVI's].I can't seem to find any sites with spec sheet
