    Hello everyone,

I have the Magnavox (Funai) standalone recorder that Wal-Mart sells- and have to ask- HOW do you copy the contents of an RW disc that's been recorded with this machine (and edited for commercials), to a non-rewritable disc? It SOUNDS like a simple question, but NOTHING I have access to (even stuff that copies commercial discs) can produce a working copy of this RW disc that this machine has produced. The RW disc, itself, plays perfectly in any of the standalone players, but when inserted into a computer, it shows the majority of the disc as being 'unreferenced' material. I've tried copying the disc as a data disc- no help.

This is very frustrating- as the commercial editing on the player is all but useless for non-rewritable discs; the edits are only effective on THAT machine. Insert the finalized disc into ANY other standalone player and guess what- your chapter edits are gone; the default 10-minute marks are there, but you might as well learn to love the commercials; cause not one of the added chapter edits will remain. I thought that IF I went the extra mile & recorded the program on a rewritable disc, I'd be able to copy THAT disc to a standard +R disc; and have a good (commercial-free) copy- but it seems that they've effectively eliminated any possible hope of getting rid of the commercials in a permanent way.

I'm HOPING my ignorance is my real problem- and that someone here can tell me what I'm doing wrong.....

    Thanks!

    Johnny

PS: Asked mfg- no firmware upgrade available...

Is the RW a "-" or a "+"? If it's "-" then it will have to be finalized first. "+" does not need to be finalized. Your question doesn't make it clear what kind of rewritable you are using.

A friend of mine bought one of these units recently but it's already blown 2 recordings from his satellite receiver and seems to be very picky about discs so I expect him to return it shortly.....

No idea why you even bother with editing on the deck. I run it all over to the PC and edit with Womble Mpeg Video Wizard DVD and then author with TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6. This has worked well for 4 years now.

Also, what burner are you using to rip the discs with? I have an LG-4163B that will only work with 75% of the +RW discs I burn in my 2 Liteons but will work with all my DVD-RAM discs. My friend has a new LG-11H that rips 100% of the discs that are put into it so I'm in the market for a new burner...
