the problem... the avi file I have has two audio streams. what I am trying to acomplish is to extract the english track and merge it with the avi and to be in sync in one avi file. also video edit magic will NOT work for me, it will not detect the english audio track at all(it is audio stream #2)..plus I dont need to re-encode and all that(I wouldnt know what settings to use..), I just want to split/merge the files. I have spent hours on this and would be enernally grateful for any help/sugestions.

have you tried to convert the avi to mpeg2 with divx to dvd. After the conversion use dvd shrink in re author mode and pick which audio track you want.It works with dvds so i cant see why it doesnt work after you convert the file.

Another program you might try is tmpgenc encoder. It has the function to split files eg. audio and video-
