I am at my wits end trying to burn dvd's. I am new to this but know people burning dvd's no problem. I have tried clonedvd2, roxio dvd builder, and Nero 6.0, all have failed. I decrypt the dvd fine using dvddecryptor, and the burning programs process the files fine, but it fails to complete teh burn. Clonedvd2 says "Write failed due to bad media, and the error code is-Write DVD 911W2". Nero just says write to disk failed, and I have the log if this would help narrow down the problem.

I have a Samsung TS-H552U-BEBN dvd burner, I have searched the web for anyone with the same problem but have not found anyone else with this happening. And I have not been able to find even one bad review of this burner.

I have uninstalled, and reinstalled both the drive, and the driver, though the most recent one is from 1999. The samsung website has some firmware updates, but they all say, "not supported by your drive".

I am using windows 2000, but thinking abou upgrading to XP after all these problems! Can someone PLEASE help I am lost, and don't know what else to try!

What brand of media are you trying to burn to? - good quality media is important and there are many poor quality media brands on the market.

Clonedvd2 is telling you the media you are using is bad ("Write failed due to bad media")

Additonaly having both Roxio and Nero on your system can cause problems as the programs often conflict leading to bad burns.

I've been using Win2000 for many years and over a 1000 burns - there is nothing wrong with Win2000 as an operating system - very stable.

I am trying to burn mostly IFO files, but have tried other files as well. I have a friend who burns the same files that I try to burn, he has a LG burner, and he has never had one problem, while I have already wasted 12 dvd-r discs on bad burns.

I have tried using Memorex, and Sony, both dvd-r, and dvd+r discs, and no luck with either.

I don't have both Nero and Roxio on my system at the same time, I have tried them both independently on my system and neither has worked.

Have any guesses before I just send this stupid drive back?

i will quote COLW on this one as he seems to have pinpointed it ,

Memorex are useless , maybe try changing to ritek or taiyo yuden as they are a more durable disc for what you are attempting

Hi Cooro, I recently bought 1 of these writers and know how frustrated U must be, I have been searching online for an answer to this problem without any success.
I`ve put write errors down to a few things, the media ur trying to write onto, the burn speeds ur burning at, and even the possibility of memory running low during a burn.
When I first bought the writer, I bought a 25 pack of Datasafe Classics 8X DVD+R, with CMC dye, had no problems whatsoever writing discs.
2nd lot I bought were Datawrite 8X DVD+R Titanium (Prodisc RO3 Dye), thats when I started to get problems.
Dont get me wrong, both lots of discs burned OK, but I noticed the Datawrite Titaniums would freeze up about an hour into any sort of video file on a standalone DVD player.
    The Datasafe Classics were fine.
The only suggestions that I can come up with, is to try to write at a slower speed, 6X and 4X on the Datawrites has been fine, even though all of the Datasafe`s worked fine at 8X.
Also, get some sort of memory defrag installed on ur computer, that monitors memory, just in case ur memory is managing to get so low as to mess the burn up.
I`m also quite sure that if u`ve just closed any sort of application, and there`s a chance that it is still running in the background, that this could be a part of the prob, as I have had a few video files, that have even started to freeze at the very beginning, once burned to disc, and looking back, there`s a possibility that 1 of my programs hasn`t quite closed down properly, or is in the progress of shutting down.
But I think the bottom line is, burn at a slower speed, I have 52X CD-R`s that I never burn at 52X, in case of errors, I always burn at 8X, and I think in this case, that could be the biggest part of the problem.
    Hope this helps M8.

By the way m8, I`m using windows XP, with nero 6, with latest updates installed, and hopefully, not had any probs burning at slower speeds. But haven`t had much luck with DVD- media, burn everything with + media.

    @Cooro,
You said you could post a log file. Please do.

This probably is media related.(Andmerr quoting COLW is on target) If I were in your shoes, I'd replace the burner with something else, get some Taiyo Yuden -R media, burn at 4x and enjoy the movies.
