i've got a new sony dru-810a in an external housing unit... it refuses to burn... brand new usb 2.0 cable... no, it's not the usb cable, tried another one. i've checked dma and even uninstalled the primary and secondary ide channels in device manager... when testing with nero drive speed, it only reaces about x2.10. unfortunately all i have is ritek g05 media to test with, but they're x8 blanks.

i'm pulling out my f*cking hair here!

.. You said that you uninstalled ide .. did you reinstall?

.. How about your firmware .. do you have the latest and greatest version for your drive?

.. Do you hace an up-to-date ASPI layer?

.. What software are you using to burn?

.. Maybe even try another USB port to plug that baby into (for some reason, not all USB ports are created equal)

... AND some more thoughts ..

.. have you defragged your hard drive?

.. are you dealing with a newer PC .. what processor are you using?

.. Sony drives seem to be partial to +R discs .. you should try several different brands of +R discs

.. last, but certainly not least .. make sure that you turn off your firewall, anti-virus, pop-up blocker, screensaver and any other programs you may have running in the background ... AND no multi-tasking!
