anybody know good programs/methods of creating an animated gif from a video clip?

i tries using "Total Video Converter" but the quality isnt that good and the filesize is big. i also used adobe imageready and the quality is great but filesize is still an issue. maybe its the settings, or maybe there are a few steps that i dont know?

what i did with adobe was open the video, pick out which part of the video i want, and save optimised as a .gif

i see gifs on some sites that are better quality and around the same length but size is less than 1mb while mine is 2mb+ i know other factors affect filesize (colours, frames, etc.)

    any help is appreaciated. thanks
