    hi gurus

i am a newbie to backing up dvds both audio and video.

recently i got mp3 songs in dvd-r format. i am sure that the dvd-r dics i got are copies of the original one.

first of all the dvd drives (NEC 3540A, NEC 6500A and GCC 4242N) struggle hard to recognize the disc and one the initial loading is done i am not able to rip it to my harddisk using DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 or not able to create a backup using nero 6 (the latest) or clonedvd or dvdxcopy platinum. i am able to play the same disc on my dvd player which is philips.

would appreciate if someone can guide me in the right direction as how to rip the dvd as i need to back it up in dvd+r disc.

    thanx

Trying to make sure I understand. I think you simply have a data disk with mp3 files on it. If this is the case you can simply open nero and make a disk to disk copy. If nothing else you should be able to open the disk in my computer and copy the mp3 files to your hard drive by simply using copy and past method.

    Good Luck

yes it is a data disc with mp3 files in respective folders. i can definitely use nero to make a backup or copy the files from the disc to my harddisk

the problem i am facing is that i am not able to copy nor make straightforward backups. it is giving me cyclic redundancy errors or read error. but when i play the disc using windows media player or in dvd player it plays.

it is a dvd-r. is it possible that it is protected from making a backup copy? if so how do i break it to make a backup as i don't want to use the original and expose it to scratches.

    thanx
