Hey, all. Long story short: my PC's monitor is now unusable. It'll boot up fine, but after just a few seconds, the picture'll go pink, then fuzzier pink, then just a pure pink screen before promptly shutting off. I'm pretty sure it's nothing that can be rectified, but just for craps and giggles, I thought I'd ask here if anyone knew of anything to help. It's a... well, actually, I'm not sure, but it's an HP model flat-screen old-school monitor (CRT?). I can't find it on the HP site anymore because it's such an old monitor (bought way back in... 2001? 2000?). But if anyone's got any ideas regarding the above issue, it'd be greatly appreciated. ...that said, I'm also planning on building my own PC anyway, but I haven't really given it any thought. If I can't fix this old monitor, what would you suggest in terms of just a cheap, no-frills monitor to make do until I get my new PC setup completed? Thanks, all.
It's dead. Let it go. Unless you have the tools, parts, and expertise, there's no magic to fix a CRT. I don't know where you're located, so I can't make an educated statement on a replacement. 17" flat screens are regularly available for $99.00 USD or less.
Actually, I can't be sure if it's a CRT. It's one of those big and cumbersome monitors, for sure, but I'm not sure if it's a CRT monitor or not. Are the "new" ones - LCD, plasma, etc. - all flat-panel screens? I haven't checked on this for a while. When it comes to displays, all I know are "big and wide" and "big and flat." :/ Anyway, thanks.
sounds like a crt to me.like the earlier post said,moniters are quite inexpensive.time for a new one methinks.
Ah, gotcha. Danke danke. But like I said, I just need something to tide me over 'til I DO get a new setup. ...but then again, maybe it HAS been a bit too long in coming. Anyway, I s'pose I'll just check out some new monitors, then. Thanks again.
If it's more than 3" thick it's a CRT. There are "flat screen CRTs". Awhile ago IBM announced "short neck" CRT technology but it was never commercially available AFAIK. Where I live people are giving them (working CRT) away in Craigslist because no one wants to pay the recycling fee. Perhaps this is an alternative where you live to tide you over.
