if you just bought it, and its brand new and is reporting errors, I'd immeditaly take it back and either exchange it for another one, or get a different brand. while marantz is a good high end brand, for minidisc I'd recommend sticking with Sony, as they're the ones who created the media format, and their products seem to work best.

Yes Sony, along with many other brands, makes portable audio recorders like that. Panasonic, Tascam, Mitsubishi make them as well.

when you bought it off ebay, was it NIB (new in box) or used? Did the seller guarantee it to be in working condition, or did the seller sell it "as is". Did you buy shipping insurance? If the seller is a dick and refuses to refund your money, you can always go the shipping insurance route and try to get your money back that way.

actually The seller is pretty cool about it. Even after I left feedback. Right now i'm just waiting to hear back from the Marantz company. I called their technical support line in the US and they were all out to lunch. I never got a call back... and I called the Canadian line and their phones havent been working for two days, or at least thats what the receptionist told me.

    Pretty ironic....
