Master/Slave DVD Rom Reader & External Burner Question?

    I have a Dell Dimension 4600 pc (P4, 2.4ghz, Windows XP Pro) with a 16X DVD ROM. I want to get an USB 2.0 external burner, Sony 510 or TDK 440N.

    Will I be able to use the DVD ROM for ripping and the xternal for burning with this setup, using DVDXCopy, the same way as if the external was an internal burner?

    have you bought DVDXcopy? If not i wouldnt bother. I would use DVD Shrink since itis free and does better compression without silly warning messages. As for external writers, all you need is a DVD Burner, since it does CD burning and DVD ROM functions.
