It took me a while to get my matrix positioned.

Turned out that I have a Version 1.1 xbox where the 15(?) connection points that sit under the chip are just holes.

I needed to get these filled with solder so that the chip made all the necessary connections.

So much for a solderless chip!

    Maybe this is your problem?

i had to scrape away the clear varnish type shit that was over the holes that needed filled before mine worked without having to hold down on the chip.. also make sure it is flashed properly

joseph - you might want to try the bolt method where you take the board out and actrually bolt the matrix to the motherboard, that solves most problems about pressure. other people will take a small piece of cardboard under the back end of the chip (opposite end of the d0 point) then when you screw it down it help level things off.

yeah, the guy mentioned that he wrapped it with electrical tape but it shouldn't matter, i think he did it to increase the thickness

I had the same kind of problems with my first v1.1 XBox and I spent a similar amount of time trying to align that darn d0 pin correctly. Eventually I wrapped electrical tape around itself several times so that it created a little shim, and then I put the electrical tape shim under the matrix daughterboard close to the side of the XBox next to the IDE connector.

However, when I had to realign the chip later (because I re-flashed the Matrix), I decided to cut the little Matrix daughterboard by the single pogo pin, but making certain that I didn't cut any of the traces on the board or any of the little "alignment" circles.

After I did that, aligning the Matrix daughterboard was a snap. In fact, I can't believe that the board was designed that way -- they should design it so that you can see the pogo pin go into the correct hole on the XBox mobo.

Here's another hint too! If you have a v1.1 XBox and you are aligning the Matrix, know that the LED will go green for 1 or 2 flashes when you power on the XBox (in installation/debug mode). This was another problem for me, but I saw one statement amongst all of the posts that mentioned this -- and it was correct! After the LED flashes green quickly, it will then flash red thereafter.

    Hope this helps! :)

i actually have a xbox 1.0 and i have another question. when my chip is alighned it does not show "matrix inside". do you think it could be a problem with the flashing? when installing the chip am i suppost to have the dvd hooked up?? and when it is aligned the error screen that shows up wien the dvd tray is pluged in shows up up all messy.

As far as I know (and that may not be very far), but your screen should show something under the XBox logo at bootup -- maybe "Matrix Inside" or "Xecuter2 Inside" -- something along those lines.

I would question whether the chip was truly lined-up or not, but it could be as you suggest, the chip needs re-flashing. I'm not sure, but you will need to have the DVDs IDE cable connected or else you'll get a different error screen at bootup.

The other thing to look for is messed-up solder joints -- I messed up my first XBox mobo by moving that darn Matrix daughterboard around so much when trying to align the d0 pinhole. Strange thing though, I couldn't really see if I screwed-up the solder lines since I didn't have a powerful enough magnifying glass.

Yo it may or may not say matrix inside, after you have install evox. The first version of evox i installed which was fairly old had "matrix inside" under the xbox logo, but when i got the newest evox (just for jokes and giggles) it did not have the "matrix inside" under the xbox logo and everything is fine, the games play great and everything. So dont worry about geting the matrix inside text just worry about getting that green light in Test/Disable mode. I also would suggest getting a color bios to tell if the chip is working.
