yes i can work with the 1.2 xbox but you have to solder it to make it work. since you got to solder anyway, you might want to consider the xecuter chip. i know they moved the d0 point on the 1.2, and i read something about a big hump or something where the matrix would go.
With the xecuter, can you proceed the same as you have to do with the Matrix after you install everything in place? Like before starting to make backups.
I installed a Xecutor2.2 Pro on my v1.2 console and everything work perfectly now. I made 3 backups games already. It is cool.
