I have searched for a thread on this subject and could only find one that came really close(http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/438601).

For some reason my DVD drive(Matshita UJ-822Da) will not play some of the DVDs that it used to. It will open data disks, and SOME DVDs but some of the DVDs that used to play will now just give me an error that reads "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." Other DVDs will play just fine.

I have tried the troubleshoot icon in windows but it did not help. I updated all my drivers via the VAIO website but it did not seem to help. I even tried to search for a driver for my dvd drive but could not find one specifically for it. Folloing the instructions from the forum link, I deleted the drive in the device manager and also deleted the ide controllers but I am still getting the error.

    Can someone please help?

Oh yah, I also deleted the upper and lower filters in the
run->regedit files as suggested in the forum link.

Well, looks like I'm on this one too...

Which DVDs are you having trouble reading? Commercial ones? Blank ones?

Commercial DVDs. Not all of them but most. Even DVDs that used to play just fine.
