It is a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4324 with MATSHITA UJ-841S drive. I have read archives. Can't find any firmware updates (either on Toshiba site where I enter model and look at all XP drivers and see nothing) or when I try the links here (outdated maybe?) or try to update via my Toshiba driver disk. I recently used that same disc to redo my whole OS (back to factory setting XP) and that is when the DVD-R & CD coasters began. Before the reinstall the media was working fine. I've even done a similar OS reinstall when the thing was a week old (1.4 years ago)
If you having coasters; Check your DMA, Check your firmaware, and Check your media (Try different brand/type) You haven’t found firmware. (Though I do not know your firmware version.) Have you checked your DMA? (Search "Check DMA Status", if you don't know how to) What kind of media using? What is your burning speed? Have you tried different media brand/ type? Have you been having trouble reading previously recorded media? Post burning software’s (error) log (without serial #), if possible. Even though you provide all possible info, you may be suggested to replace the drive...
DMA is checked. It is verified fine. Media is Sony Accucore DVD-R (which I burned fine from the same stack previous to reinstall of OS) & Memorex CD-R (which I've used before). Burning speed. Again, same computer, same media have burned many movies fine on Max speed. Have had some coasters that I recall (from the start) but that seemed to be fixed by Nero (was less greedy on resources). Have tried going a bit slower, same coaster. I believe I have ruled out media as the issue, but I will now attempt to burn a Memorex DVD-R from a stack I happen to have here. Have not tried those yet. Reading is working fine. I just installed a rather large DVD of games and play the game off the DVD often (as of late). Reads great. I understand you do not have a problem recording CD, though CD and DVD are different function as my understanding. I do not know what this error is. Though it seems hardware issue than the media issue. Let’s search (I’ll do if I can). Or hope someone here know about it….
I still do not know what that eror code mean after some searching. Though if you have not tried yet, could burn with slower speed? (Your drive may not be able to keep up its high speed any more...)

@shuvro Since OP’s problem may or may not be solved, let’s not discuss your problem in a same thread to prevent confusion. (This may be considered thread hijacking.) So please erase your previous post by editing (use pen and paper icon at right after signing in) and start your own new thread. FYI: by quick look, the log you posted shows that you were trying to write on the disc it already has been written. Try brand new disc and post that log.
I have an update, so hopefully somebody reads this. I ended up restarting my computer (something I know I have done since this issue) and got this message asking to enable burning DVD-r because CD-R was currently on? The only reason I think that prompt came up is because i tried to burn using the XP copy right to CD feature. Just mentioning it. So I clicked yes. I tried the different media and think I stumbled on something. Turns out the mystery stack i had was dual layer 2.4X DVD's. I had an ISO laying around, and, sure enough, after like a half hour of burning at 2.4 (and what sounded like some struggling) I was able to burn with success!! Then I went back to CD-R. Well it seemed I was about done, got to 92%, and then 'illegal block size' and some struggling, and it ended as 'unable to fix' error. This was a cd-r jukebox burn, cd-r data still error almost instantly. I wondered if Nero was the problem, especially since I could not find any area to change the cd-r speed. Last night I tried windows media at very low speed, also an mp3 mix. It got to 90% then said unable to finalize. This gave me a clue. I was able to burn, on Nero, @ max speed, onto memorex cd-r... a multisession mp3 mix... meaning it was not finalized. This works in my stereo! I am very happy, but still upsetting I am so close to figuring this out, but something is amiss!
Your problem might caused by this. (Search “CDRALW2K.SYS” here at aD, there are many other posts.) Did your problem start after installing some kind of burning software?
